Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.

Mr. Nathaniel Alston is a consultant with the Howard County Center of African American Culture and the President & Founder of The Horizons Group, Inc. He has 40+ years of executive-level and mid-level human resources experience in a variety of positions covering a diverse range of industries.

Panelist - State Senator Clarence Lam
|
Dr. Clarence Lam is a state senator representing District 12 (Baltimore and Howard Counties) in the Maryland General Assembly, where he serves on the Senate Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee and the Executive Nominations Committee.
Dr. Lam is chair of the Howard County Work Group on AAPI; co-chairs the Joint Committee Audits and Evaluations and co-chairs the Joint Committee on Fair Practices & State Personnel Oversight. He currently serves as the Chair of the Howard County Senate Delegation and the Vice Chair of the Baltimore County Senate Delegation.
Senator Lam is currently one of only three doctors in the legislature and the only physician in the Senate of Maryland.

Panelist - Dr. Fatimah Fanusie
|
Dr. Fatimah Fanusie is a Twentieth-Century U.S. historian and lecturer whose work is at the heart of an evolving reappraisal of the study of African American Islam, the modern Civil Rights Movement and African Diaspora culture.
She is the Program Director for the Justice Leaders Fellowship Program at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies (ICJS) in Baltimore and the Lead Historian and Archivist for the Howard Thurman Historical home in Daytona Beach, Florida and Washington, D.C.

Reverend Charles Y. Davis, Jr.
Pastor- Full Gospel Baptist Church in Cooksville, MD. This coming June 2021, he’ll have served in his tenth year as Pastor.

Reverend Davis was raised up in Ebenezer United Methodist Church in SE, DC, until leaving on his own at the age of 23, and was baptized in 1992 at the First Baptist Church of Guilford under the late Reverend Dr. John L. Wright, Pastor. In December 1996, he was ordained by the Board of Deacons. In 2000, he was appointed Volunteer Assistant Chaplain for the District of Columbia Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) at two locations in DC and in Laurel, MD, and in 2004, was appointed as Head Chaplain until his resignation in 2017.
Reverend Davis wishes to complete his life objective, which is –
“To Win Souls to Christ”, and asks that he be remembered
“as a brother who just tried to help somebody”.

Reverend Bowyer Freeman is a Social Impact Investor whose academic preparation, research, scholarship, and professional career are trans-disciplinary and have converged at the intersection of Theology; Public Policy; Healthcare; and on Theological, Ethical, & Social issues in human genomics.

Panelist - Mr. Kenneth Katzen |
Mr. Kenneth Katzen is the leader of the Vitality, Diversity, and Inclusion team at the Kittamaqundi Community Church. He is proud of the church’s enthusiasm and willingness to do the hard work of full inclusion and racial justice.
Right now, he is especially excited about their involvement with similarly focused groups in Howard County and the church’s “Name Them!” project, which is attempting to find and publish the names of the people enslaved on Oakland Manor, the former plantation on which the church sits.

Panelist - Dr. David Marker |
Dr. David Marker is a 40-year resident of Howard County. He recently retired from a 40-year career as a statistician, designing, collecting, and analyzing survey data on a wide range of social issues.
Dr. Marker is currently Co-Chair, American Statistical Association Anti-Racism Task Force and Chair of the Social Action/Green Committee of Bet Chaverim Congregation of Columbia. He was previously the Chair of the Social Action Committee of Beth Shalom Congregation of Columbia.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the entire Howard County community (including Friends of the Museum, Volunteers, Churches, Businesses and Government Agencies and Officials) for your generous support, well-wishes, and contributions.
We continue to make excellent progress in planning our return to our physical location on Vantage Point Road.
- Repairs from the flood damage are almost completed.
- We will have to replace 90% of our computers and printers (damaged by the flood).
- We are actively digitizing our important artifacts and memorabilia.
- We are taking this opportunity to create a digital catalog, as well as a physical catalog, of all our important curated items.
- We are actively planning the new layout and floor plan for the museum re-opening.
- We are actively expanding the museum's "online presence" to include: an expanded website, online library, online streaming platform, digital archive and expanded social media presence.
- Lastly, we a planning our GRAND RE-OPENING (details forthcoming!)
