In the fall of 2023, Bayou Community Foundation (BCF) conducted a Community Needs Assessment for Lafourche, Terrebonne and Grand Isle. Access to mental health and substance use disorder counseling, treatment and care was identified as a critical unmet need.

In response, BCF launched the Bayou Region Behavioral Health Working Group and will host the inaugural Bayou Region Behavioral Health Summit on April 30 at Fletcher Technical Community College to begin an impactful and inclusive conversation about the “state of" mental health and substance use disorder in our region, current care provided, gaps in current services, and barriers that residents face to access services.

The goal of the Summit is to identify key partnerships and develop collaborative approaches to strengthen and expand equitable access to behavioral health care and preventative services for residents of our Bayou Region.

Our distinguished facilitator for the Summit is Ron McClain (LCSW and JD), Executive Director of the Institute of Mental Hygiene of the City of New Orleans and Fellow in the Tulane University School of Medicine Early Childhood Policy Leadership Institute.

Space is limited. Participation is open to invited guests/organizations only.

This survey of Behavioral Health providers in Lafourche, Terrebonne and Grand Isle is designed to help Bayou Community Foundation and our community partners better understand and appreciate the mental health and substance use disorder counseling and treatment services currently provided in our region.
