Important Updates for Licensees and Applicants

TESTING, TESTING… In accordance with HB 197, the Division has extended the exam eligibility period for applicants whose eligibility is due to expire between March 9, 2020 and August 31, 2020. Until and unless additional legislation is passed and signed by Governor DeWine, August will be the last month that an automatic extension to test will be given. That means that applicants with an eligibility expiration date of September 1, 2020 and after must reapply if both parts of the exam are not passed by that applicant’s expiration date.

For example: Susie applied September 21, 2019. Her application was processed on September 25, 2019 – that being her exam eligibility date. Susie’s eligibility expiration date is September 25, 2020. She must pass both portions of the Ohio Salesperson exam by September 25, 2020. Otherwise, a new Salesperson License Examination Application and fee must be submitted.

Ohio’s testing vendor, PSI, is now contacting applicants to schedule exams within a few days of receiving notice of eligibility, so although some exam locations may not have appointments available until mid- to late-September, anyone who wants to no longer has a month to wait to get scheduled. Applicants may also choose to travel to a test site that has earlier dates available.

PLEASE HOLD… License transfer applications are our team’s top priority to process because we know salespersons cannot work for that period between leaving one brokerage and affiliating with a new company. When a licensee submits a transfer to the Division, it will be processed promptly. We cannot return it, or hold it, until the licensee decides whether s/he really wants to transfer. Please be certain you truly want to transfer, then ensure the application submitted to the Division is complete and accurate and we will process it as quickly as we can, normally within 1-2 business days of receipt in our office.

SIGN ON THE DOTTED LINE… Principal Brokers: you must ensure that when you meet with a sales applicant to sponsor and sign their sales exam application that the applicant has completed all four of the pre-licensure classes BEFORE you sign the application. The Principal Broker’s signature on that application indicates to the Division that the PB has met with this applicant, discussed any “YES” answers on the ethical/background questions, and reviewed it for completeness and accuracy. A completed application includes documentation of successful completion of the pre-licensure courses. The PB signs and dates after the applicant, attesting to the fact that s/he has reviewed it, and that the application information and materials attached are complete and accurate. Additional information, or potentially a new application, will be required in the following cases:
  • Application is signed and dated before the pre-licensure is completed;
  • PB signs/dates before applicant; and
  • Undisclosed or unexplained ethical/background issues. Please remind your applicants that OVI, DUI, OMVI, Disorderly Conduct and such convictions, even if they are misdemeanors, must be disclosed. These are not “minor traffic violations”.
