Rutgers Signs MOUs with Leading Research Institutions in Ireland Forming Strategic Alliances in Medical Device Development
On a recent trip to the Emerald Isle as part of a Choose New Jersey delegation to promote the Garden State's innovation economy, members of the Rutgers community met with leaders at the CÚRAM Centre for Research in Medical Devices at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway) and the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) to discuss multi-disciplinary collaborations involving research on medical device technologies, commercialization of medical technologies, and business incubation and acceleration. Rutgers signed Memoranda of
Understanding with
the NUI Galway and GMIT paving the way for complementary medical device programs and establishing the New Jersey-Ireland Medical Technology Innovation Alliance.

Brush Up on Rutgers' Facilities and Administrative Costs Policy
Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs, also known as indirect costs or overhead, are those costs associated with the infrastructure that supports the research enterprise that cannot be easily determined for each project. These costs include buildings and their maintenance, libraries, and administrative services, such as payroll, human resources, and research office services. The F&A rates, along with Rutgers' fringe rates, are negotiated with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and are applied to all grant and contract budgets.

Data Management Plan Tool Now Available to Rutgers Community
Rutgers University is now a member of the DMPTool, an open source data management plan tool recommended by the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, National Endowment for the Humanities, and other large funding agencies who require such plans for award proposals. The DMPTool can assist you with
:
creating ready-to-use data management plans for specific funding agencies;
meeting funder requirements for data management plans;
step-by-step instructions and guidance when building data management plans; and
resources and services available to help fulfill the data management requirements of grants. Any Rutgers community member can sign in using institutional credentials (NetID and password) by going to DMPtool.org, clicking the "Sign In" button on the top right, and selecting "Option 1."

Limited Submission Opportunities
The Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) program seeks to: advance new approaches to and evidence based understanding of the design and development of STEM learning opportunities for the public in informal environments; provide multiple pathways for broadening access to and engagement in STEM learning experiences; advance innovative research on and assessment of STEM learning in informal environments; and engage the public of all ages in learning STEM in informal environments. Proposals are limited to three per campus and pre-proposals must be submitted through the
Rutgers Limited Submission process. The internal ap
plication deadline is August 28, 2019.
Amazon Research Awards
The Amazon Research Awards (ARA) program offers awards of up to $80,000 to faculty members at academic institutions worldwide for research in the following areas: Computer vision, Fairness in artificial intelligence, Knowledge management and data quality, Machine learning algorithms and theory, Natural language processing, Online advertising, Operations research and optimization, Personalization, Robotics, Search and information retrieval, Security, and Privacy and abuse prevention. This program funds projects conducted primarily by PhD students or post docs under the supervision of the faculty member awarded the funds. Deadline: October 4, 2019

Health Care's Role in Meeting Patients' Needs
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released a call for proposals to identify grantees who can lead an effort to provide the following two components: Part 1, Clear Principles that set a high standard for the health care sector to provide equitable care that fully addresses people's physical, emotional, and social needs; and Part 2, Guidance for implementing care delivery that is fully responsive to patients' goals, needs, and life circumstances, using maternal morbidity and mortality as a case example. Applicants can apply to lead either one or both component parts, and the two parts may be led by separate organizations. Brief Proposal Deadline: August 15, 2019
