WCA & Mayor Kimo Alameda Host Community Talk-Story/Q&A - Join Us!

WCA will host its monthly Town Meeting on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., featuring a presentation by and community discussion with Mayor Kimo Alameda and members of his county administration. The meeting will take place in the W. M. Keck Observatory Headquarters’ Jerry Nelson Conference Room and is open to the public.

During the meeting Waimea residents with hear directly from the Mayor and county department leaders about county issues including Finance, Parks, Planning, Research and Development, Sustainability, Water and other issues impacting Hawaiʻi Island.

The meeting offers residents an important forum for direct communication with county leadership. Attendees will not only receive updates on county projects and priorities, but will also have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with decision-makers during an extended Q&A session.

“Having direct access to the mayor and county department heads is incredibly valuable for our community,” says Nancy Carr Smith, WCA President. “This meeting gives residents the chance to hear firsthand what is happening at the county level and better understand the challenges and opportunities facing our community.”

Mayor Alameda emphasized the administration’s commitment to community engagement and transparency.

“We’re pleased to accept the invitation to share updates from several departments,” said Mayor Alameda. “We look forward to seeing everyone there and having plenty of time for Q&A.”

In addition to the county presentation, the meeting will include a special tribute honoring beloved Pastor Sione Tilini, whose recent passing has been deeply felt throughout the Waimea community.

The Waimea Police Department will provide community announcements and introduce Waimea’s newly appointed Captain Bobbie-Jo Sagan.

The evening’s nonprofit spotlight will be on Malama Kai Foundation, presented by Executive Director Chris Hawkins. For more than three decades, Malama Kai Foundation has worked to protect Hawaiʻi’s coastal and marine resources through environmental stewardship, marine debris removal, conservation partnerships, and community education initiatives throughout the island.

All community members are encouraged to attend in person as there will be no live streaming of this town meeting. Some portions of the meeting will be filmed for later viewing.

WCA welcomes new members to join as individuals, families or business and support its more than 65 years of service to the community.
