Fifteen individuals completed a REST training course on Nov. 3-4 , which was hosted by the  Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), St. Paul . Click here to see a photo.
Nevada Aging and Disability Services , through government and community collaborations, has begun to provide a range of tools to support caregivers. This includes a recently launched website, called Nevada Care Connection, which offers a variety of statewide resources to caregivers, including links to organizations that provide REST trainings or respite care through companions.
A total of 58 RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) volunteers recently completed two REST Companion training courses through Nevada Rural Counties RSVP program in in Carson City and Pahrump.
Thirteen individuals completed a REST Companion course through Caregiver Exchange, a caregiver support group at St Peter's Episcopal Church in Carson City.
Legacy Home Care, Las Vegas, held its first REST Companion training course this past October, with 11 home care workers participating. Legacy is a non-medical home care agency in Clark County, providing a wide range of in-home care services, including respite.

A REST Train-the-Trainer course will take place on Jan. 26-27 , at the Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region, Schenectady. Find out more here.
offers a monthly drop-off respite program for caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease, dementia and memory loss. The church uses the REST Essentials® curriculum to train volunteers, and has received a mini grant from the  New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition  to help fund the program.

Organizers of the Annual Conference of the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition have called the event a "huge success." The conference, which included a presentation by a representative from Alabama Respite Ministry, took place on Nov. 9, at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center, Albany. It was presented in partnership with the Albany Guardian Society, University of Rochester Medical Center, Lifespan, and the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center.


REST Trainer Doris Green presented , "Accessing and Accepting Respite as a Tool for Addressing Isolation and Depression," during the 2016 Caregiver Conference, Nov. 15, at Angell College Center-State University of New York, Plattsburgh.
Representatives from Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, Livingston County Catholic Charities, and Catholic Charities of Washtenaw , recently completed a REST train-the-trainer course through Area Agency on Aging 1B in Southfield.  They plan to use the REST program to train volunteers to provide respite care for families throughout several counties in the state.
The  Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging  at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences  (UAMS) held a National Family Caregiver Month celebration on Nov. 9. The day featured a tour of the UAMS Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Center and Carehouse, and provided the opportunity to hear national speakers, including John Schall, president and CEO of Caregiver Action Network. 
Calvary Lutheran Church, Wood Dale will hold a Christmas respite care event on Dec. 10.  Learn more here
Respite Endowment Organization (REO) will soon launch a monthly three-hour drop-off respite program for families of children with special needs and their siblings. REO will use the REST curriculum to train teen mentors and adult volunteers for the program, which will take place at the Alive Center in Naperville. Rotary Naperville Downtown provided a $750 grant to cover part of the training.

Alpine Area Agency on Aging will host a REST Companion course on Jan. 28, at the Granby Senior and Community Center in Granby. The course will focus on training community and faith-based volunteers to support caregivers in Grand County. Alpine AAA has tentatively scheduled another course in January in Eagle County. The Agency provides services and supports for adults, age 60 and older, across Grand, Jackson, Eagle, Summit and Pitkin counties. For more information, click here

Western Arizona Council of Governments will hold its first REST Companion training this January for those who provide respite to caregivers through the Daybreak Adult Day Health Care program at Catholic Community Services in Yuma.
A REST trainer will train volunteers for the Legacy Corps Veteran In-Home Respite Program this month through Spectrum Generations, Augusta. Through this AmeriCorps project, volunteers provide respite services for veteran and military family caregivers, as well as assist with recreational activities, errands, transportation, light meal preparation and other activities.
KTVI Fox 2 News, St. Louis, highlighted National Family Caregivers Month , and the annual Care & Conquer Education Series, hosted by the Alzheimer`s Association St. Louis Chapter.  Each series event focuses on the latest research, early detection, and resources available to people with the disease and their caregivers. A REST Trainer participated in a panel, "Innovative Programs to Know About, " in October, during the National Volunteer Caregiving Network Conference in Kansas City.
Nā Hoaloha held a successful fundraiser on Nov. 6, aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America . Proceeds from the event will help keep seniors in their homes with the support of Nā Hoaloha's volunteers. 
Twenty individuals completed a REST Companion course on Nov. 12 , at Berkshire Family and Individual Resources , North Adams.
The Morning Sun featured a REST Trainer in an article about the financial support that the Southeast Kansas Respite Services (SEKRS) receives from the United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas. Last year, SEKRS served 140 families with seniors or members who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. Read the article here.
A two-part series, Aging Montana, on KRTV highlighted the need for respite care , as well as the Lifespan Respite program and services available to seniors through the Department of Public Health and Human Services . See the news report here .
The Alabama Lifespan Respite Network will present two workshops in December and January . "Preventing Caregiver Stress and Burnout," will take place on Dec. 13, in Scottsboro.   "Preventing Caregiver Burnout," will take place on Jan. 19, at Morningview Estates, Fayette. The events will include such topics as identifying the signs and symptoms of burnout, and how to alleviate stressors in a healthy way. The first 10 caregivers to RSVP for both events will be eligible for a $200 respite award. Learn more here.

To thank caregivers for their dedication, and to commemorate National Family Caregivers Month , the South Central Town Hall Caregiver Coalition recently held a Thanksgiving meal for caregivers at Good Samaritan Village, Hastings. The lunch included presentations by a local family caregiver, a pastor from Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings, and an advocacy volunteer from AARP. See more here .
The Tennessee Respite Coalition  held a Caregiver Appreciation Brunch and discussion about respite and caregiver services on Nov. 9, at the Dickson Senior Citizen Center, Dickson. The Coalition also hosted a Caregiver Appreciation Day on Nov. 14, at The Temple Church in Nashville.  Learn more about these events here .
The Caregiver's Rest Conference took place Nov. 1, at the Bert Ferguson Community Center, Cordova. The event was organized by Caregiver's Respite, an organization in Shelby County supporting family caregivers, and was sponsored by the Tennessee Respite Coalition.

Kadamba Tree Foundation will offer REST Companion training as a complement to its current menu of evidence-based and evidence-informed programs for family caregivers. Training REST Companions to provide respite to area caregivers will increase those caregivers' opportunities to take advantage of Kadamba Tree's education and support programs.
