A REST Train-the-Trainer course will take place Sept. 8-9 at the Summit Community and Senior Center in Frisco through the Alpine Area Agency on Aging. See details of the training. The Senior Center is a nonprofit partner of Summit County Senior Citizens, which strives to improve the quality of life for seniors by providing recreation, intellectual stimulation, physical activity, volunteering and other services and opportunities.  

Registration is underway for Elevate Respite! 17th National Lifespan Respite Conference, which will take place Sept. 20-22 in Denver. We invite attendees to stop by the REST exhibit table to learn more about how REST is building networks of support for caregivers throughout the nation.   See details here

New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition, in partnership with Ithaca College and the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center, will present a REST Train-the-Trainer course, Oct. 6-7, at Quail Summit, Canadaigua. Click for details

New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition has put out a Request for Proposals for mini grants for organizations and faith communities to create or expand volunteer respite programs. Learn more by clicking here

A community impact campaign continues to raise awareness of family caregivers' need for respite and how individuals can help. The campaign was made possible through the collaboration of 12 organizations in the Rochester area, including the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition, Lifespan of Greater Rochester, and the Ad Council of Rochester. A REST Train-the-Trainer course will take place Oct. 12-13 at the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division, Las Vegas. Read more
The Respite Care Program of the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) , in collaboration with the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD), trained 10 REST Companions on July 11 in Caliente, and eight REST Companions on July 21-22 in Elko.   
A REST Companion training will take place Aug. 16 through the Sanford Center for Aging at the University of Nevada, Reno, for volunteers from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Senior Outreach Services. See details The mission of the Sanford Center is to enhance the quality of life and well-being among elders through education, aging-related research, and community outreach.

Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) staff is coordinating the Respite Employer Engagement Pilot Project at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine with the Nebraska Deparment of Health and Human Services. Read more. To learn more about MMI Respite Across the Lifespan  click here

Seven new REST Trainers completed a two-day REST Train-the-Trainer course on July 27-28 in Maui. The event was sponsored by Na Hoaloha, a community-based volunteer organization that serves the aging population in Maui County. The mission of Na Hoaloha is to provide "compassionate care to seniors and those with disabilities to help them to remain independent and to enhance their quality of life." See photo here

A REST Companion course will take place Aug. 19 at the North Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments, Decatur. See details

A REST Essentials course will take place Aug. 24 in Mobile.

Alabama Lifespan Respite Resource Network is currently accepting applications from non-profit agencies and faith-based communities that serve those with special needs and/or chronic or terminal illnesses to apply for the FY 2016-2017 Respite Expansion Mini-Grant. Click for more details

Five REST Companions completed a REST Essentials course on July 16 in Kansas City.

Walk in the Park - the largest awareness day of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis - will take place Oct. 1 at Busch Stadium. See details

"What a Relief," a video produced by Montana Lifespan Respite, explores how respite has positively impacted several family caregivers. See video here

The Voice of Care "Mile for Mileage Challenge" Walk and Picnic will take place Aug. 20 in Woodridge, and Aug. 27 in Schaumburg.  The fundraiser will benefit the service organization, which conducts REST training courses in northern Illinois. To register and learn more,  click here
Calvary Lutheran Church, Wood Dale, continues to provide drop-off respite events. The congregation recently concluded Vacation Bible School, and will offer an inclusive chapel service and lunch on Aug. 28, and a back-to-school respite event, Sept. 10.    Additional information here 

Alzheimer's Arkansas is accepting applications for its Family Assistance Program, which provides grants for caregivers in Arkansas, caring for a family members with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Learn more
