For What It’s Werf: They did it! You did it! Now, let's do it!
After well over a year of conversations, red tape, negotiations, red tape, bank transfers, more red tape, the United Methodist Church of Ukraine now owns the complex (shown above) know as "Under the Castle".
This hotel/resort will now become home in the immediate future for a shelter for displaced persons in the county, but long range plans for the complex include a trauma rehabilitation site, and a UMC training center. Thank you for your support to UMCOR and the Advance #14053A!!!! You did it!
What you may not know is that the procurement of this site has involved the incredible sacrifice of DS Oleg and Pastor Yulia Starodubets. They have made countless trips from Kyiv to Kamyanetsya (over 800 km by car). And now for the sake of the mission, they will be moving their family (two twin girls) from Kyiv to the Ushgorod region to begin giving themselves to this ministry.
As Yulia says, "We have both types of feelings now - joy and responsibility". They will spend these next two weeks to find out as much as they can about how the building works - establish contracts, work with service companies like gas, electricity, and internet providers. A dedication service is planned in April during an upcoming visit from Bishop Alsted.
Please be praying for the Starodubets during this transition. They have given themselves completely to the work of the UMC and to the work of the full gospel in Ukraine.
Lord Jesus, we pray for the end of war. We pray for displaced families everywhere. We pray for all who live under daily fear in search of safety. We pray that your message of hope, healing, salvation, and restoration would ring out from your churches. We pray for peace.
