Video: Introducing Alex

Since the full scale invasion of Ukraine, Alex Arnaut and his family have been living in the Lower Saxony region of Germany in a remote Christian Center among other displaced Ukrainians. Seeing the need for community and Spiritual care, Alex, a lay person from the Life Spring United Methodist Church in Kyiv, has begun regular worship services and small groups for these families.

Listen to this short 8 minute zoom interview of Alex here.

Advance Project Name Change:

It has taken some time, but we have updated our Advance Project  #14053A on Global Minsitries’ website. You can find it here.  Updates were made to reflect the change of relationship from Eurasia Conference, and to update the objectives of the UMC in Ukraine.

The UMC in Ukraine remains grateful for your prayers, advocacy, and gifts. Your support continues to help pastors, planters, training events, and ongoing ministry with displaced persons.

Polish Pastor Jaroslav Reaches Berestechko

Since the full scale Russian Invasion, United Methodist Polish pastor Jaroslav Bator has been doing what he can to respond to the humanitarian needs of Ukrainians across the border, in the Volyn region, and in particular cities like Berestechko.

Jaroslav writes, "For the past 2 years, i have been helping the hospital, the Social Welfare Program, impoverished families, and children with disabilities."

This past Christmas Pastor Bator was able to organize a Christmas program for over 200 children, and even now is working on Easter baskets. Mostly his efforts are focused on clothing and food assistance.

Jaroslav's mission to this region has been quite positively received, as his humanitarian outreach has become trusted for its willingness to make no distinction on who receives help. Regardless of religion, status, or nationality this United Methodist pastor reaches out to anyone in need.

I am happy to report that your some of your faithful contributions to UMCOR will now be directed to Jaroslav's mission outreach - providing gas and assistance. Pastor Jaroslav hopes to eventually plant a United Methodist Church in the town of Berestechko. Please pray for him and his ministry.

(I would be remiss not to share with you two videos on Polish Television regarding his mission that he has forwarded on to me. Its in Polish, but I think you will be able to see the impact of his ministry.)

For What It’s Werf: They did it! You did it! Now, let's do it!

After well over a year of conversations, red tape, negotiations, red tape, bank transfers, more red tape, the United Methodist Church of Ukraine now owns the complex (shown above) know as "Under the Castle".

This hotel/resort will now become home in the immediate future for a shelter for displaced persons in the county, but long range plans for the complex include a trauma rehabilitation site, and a UMC training center. Thank you for your support to UMCOR and the Advance #14053A!!!! You did it!

What you may not know is that the procurement of this site has involved the incredible sacrifice of DS Oleg and Pastor Yulia Starodubets. They have made countless trips from Kyiv to Kamyanetsya (over 800 km by car). And now for the sake of the mission, they will be moving their family (two twin girls) from Kyiv to the Ushgorod region to begin giving themselves to this ministry.

As Yulia says, "We have both types of feelings now - joy and responsibility". They will spend these next two weeks to find out as much as they can about how the building works - establish contracts, work with service companies like gas, electricity, and internet providers. A dedication service is planned in April during an upcoming visit from Bishop Alsted.

Please be praying for the Starodubets during this transition. They have given themselves completely to the work of the UMC and to the work of the full gospel in Ukraine.

Lord Jesus, we pray for the end of war. We pray for displaced families everywhere. We pray for all who live under daily fear in search of safety. We pray that your message of hope, healing, salvation, and restoration would ring out from your churches. We pray for peace.
