In its 11th Year, JAG-K More Important Than Ever

JAG-K is off and running for another school year - our 11th - with 113 programs serving 6,000 students across the state.

In the bustle and excitement that accompanies a new school year, JAG-K can fly under the radar. But a recent message from the JAG National office is a reminder of the crucial role we are playing:

Today’s high-school graduates are more than three times more likely to live in poverty than their predecessors.

According to a 2019 study, nearly 45% of high school kids surveyed said that a high school diploma would be enough to provide the skills necessary to become successful workers, as reported by USA Today.

However, data from the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) demonstrates that those with at least a bachelor's degree will earn 72% higher weekly wages on average than those with only a high school degree. High-school graduates are increasingly being penalized in a knowledge-based workforce. An escalating poverty level is the result.

The JAG Advantage gives students power over poverty. For those entering the workforce after high school, as well as those entering post-secondary education or the military, JAG provides 12-months of follow-up services after high school to ensure our students are on a successful trajectory.

While the BLS data addresses higher wages for some, we also know there are numerous good-paying careers that do not require a college degree. It has been estimated that more than 70% of jobs in the new economy will require some post-secondary training, whether it is a certification program, trade school, or a college degree. JAG-K recognizes that fact and helps our students appropriately prepare for successful futures.

JAG-K helps students prepare for successful futures. It never gets old. We recognize the importance of our mission, and we are supported by so many across Kansas who recognize it as well. Thank you for your support in year number 11!

JAG-K Day at the K Celebration Planned for Sept. 29

JAG-K will be the featured guest of the Kansas City Royals at their game Sept. 29 against the New York Yankees!

Earlier this year, Royals Charities provided professional dress outfits to JAG-K's state and regional officers, and now the Royals have provided complimentary tickets to JAG-K students and staff for the game.

Additionally, JAG-K President/CEO Chuck Knapp will represent the organization in the Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat, an honor for individuals who make a significant contribution to the community (see video below). He will be shown on the TV broadcast and honored by the stadium PA announcer in the first few innings of the game.

If you can't attend the game, be sure to tune in to the broadcast to see JAG-K celebrated during the game!
