E-NEWSLETTER l RF PCB

November 2023

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

President's Message, November 2023

Over the past few years, we have seen the interest and the requirements for RF technology printed circuit boards grow exponentially. Here at ASC, we have dedicated ourselves to becoming a true leader in this technology.

Just by looking at the world around us it is easy to see why this phenomenon has occurred. Here are just a few of the applications that now require RF technology PCBs:

  • Wireless communications in products from smartphones to wi-fi routers and IoT devices.
  • RFID systems that use RF PCBs to read and transmit data from RFID tags.
  • Automotive electronics with vehicles incorporating RF technology for everything from keyless entry and tire pressure monitoring systems to collision avoidance systems.
  • Medical devices where RF devices are used in MRI machines and remote patient monitoring systems.
  • Satellite communications where RF PCBs are critical in transmitting signals between ground stations and orbiting satellites.

These are just a few examples of the wide range of applications that involve wireless communications, data transmission and remote control, all of which require RF PCBs.

What are your RF needs? Give us a call and we'll help you find the right reliable RF solutions for your products.

In the meantime, read on and enjoy this month's newsletter, completely dedicated to RF PCB technology.

Sincerely,

Anaya Vardya, President and CEO

RF Material Selection

When discussing the right choice for materials to use in designs, today's engineers are much more knowledgeable than they were during the early years of RF PCB technology. At that time, there were only a couple flavors of low-loss Teflon materials, and most of them contained the word Duroid. Today, there are literally dozens of controlled-Dk and low-loss materials available on the market, many of which contain proprietary resin systems that allow the PCB fabricator to manufacture them using similar processes to standard FR-4 materials.

That being said, there is no particular material that is more effective across the board for every application, or even more cost effective than another. There will always be a cost-benefit component to these choices based on performance and functional requirements. As with most things, total cost must be the guide. The initial material cost may be higher than other alternatives, but if the new result is a product that meet design specifications, then it still may be considered the right material.
