CELEBRATING UNR'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY

Colleagues,

Our 150th anniversary anthology idea is getting a positive reception, and we already have three dozen Intents and half a dozen or more first draft submissions - our goal is 100. Thanks to all who have already responded!

We'd like to ask all retired faculty - RFA members or not, emeritus or not, academic or administrative - to consider submitting a recollection of your time at UNR. This is a one-shot effort to compile something for posterity.

Step one is to fill out an Intent to Submit form (name, contact info, department/position, years of service, topic idea). This just gives us a working list of people to stay in touch with as the project progresses - Due date - 1/31/24. You will receive additional guidelines when we receive your form.

What we're looking for

  • No more than 2,000 words, submitted in Word
  • Can be in the form of an essay, short story, poem, song lyrics, anecdotes, etc.
  • Text only, no photos or graphics
  • Can be a joint effort of 2 or more faculty members

Some ideas

If you and a colleague sat down over a cup of coffee or a beer to catch up, inevitably one of you would say, "Do you remember the time that....?" And that would start the story rolling. That's what we're looking for.

So far, story ideas range from incidents with particular faculty or administrators who had an impact, a turning point in a particular college or department, memorable students or projects you were involved with, growing pains, crises encountered or averted, a goal reached, challenge surmounted, or everyday campus life at a particular time in your tenure. It doesn't have to be profound. The end product will be a mosaic of experiences of the last 50 years or so.

"Joe Stories"

As we have been corresponding with people, many "Joe stories" have cropped up, as in former UNR President, Joe Crowley. If you have a memorable anecdote about Joe, we invite you to send it along in addition to your primary submission (or as your primary submission). Depending on what we receive, we may make this a special section of the anthology.

Due Dates

  • January 31, 2024 - Intent forms due
  • March 31, 2024 - Draft submissions due
  • June 30, 2024 - Deadline for completion of edits and sign-off by authors
  • July 31, 2024 - Anthology finished and ready for presentation
