Nominate a River-Friendly Farmer by June 15!
Districts - Nominate a River Friendly Farmer! Annually, each county Soil and Water Conservation District may nominate up to two farmers who do an outstanding job of protecting their rivers, lakes and streams through their everyday conservation management practices on the farm. Watershed organizations also may nominate farmers for the award by submitting an application to a county SWCD. The 2018 River Friendly Farmer Award Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. On Friday, June 1, the  Big Pine Creek Watershed  and the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative (CCSI) coordinated a field day to discuss and showcase the conservation efforts, practices and impacts within the Big Pine Creek watershed. Rick Clark and his family hosted the field day at Clark Land and Cattle in Williamsport, Ind., that combined both informative panel discussions and field demonstrations. Read more ...

Indiana Grown takes over the Circle for second Monumental Marketplace
INDIANAPOLIS (May 30, 2018) – The Monumental Marketplace is back and bigger this year, as Indiana Grown’s signature event returns to downtown Indianapolis on Friday, June 15. Located on Monument Circle, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Hoosiers will be able to sip, sample and shop from more than 150 Indiana Grown vendors at this one-of-a-kind farmers market style experience. “Our goal is to bring business owners, farmers and the greater community together to showcase and celebrate all-things Indiana agriculture,” said Bruce Kettler, Indiana State Department of Agriculture director.  Read more...
State distributes Clean Water Indiana funds
Indianapolis (June 4, 2018) — The Indiana State Department of Agriculture ( ISDA ) and the State Soil Conservation Board ( SSCB ) distributed more than $900,000 to Indiana’s 92 Soil and Water Conservation Districts. The funds were awarded through the Clean Water Indiana ( CWI ) program as part of a matching grant.
“These grants will go a long way to improve water quality across the state,” said Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. “It’s important that we provide our conservation districts with the resources they need to be effective on the ground.” Read more ...
Nominations for AgriVision Award Accepted through July 1
Now in its 12th year, the AgriVision Award is open to any Indiana resident and all sectors of the agriculture industry—from bioenergy to livestock to trade. It was specifically created to honor an individual who has reshaped Indiana agriculture through their visionary ideas in innovation, technology and/or agribusiness.
This year's recipient will be recognized by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch during her Celebration of Agriculture at the Indiana State Fair.  Read more ...

Indianapolis (May 31, 2018)   — The  Indiana State Department of Agriculture  is now accepting submissions for the 11th annual Indiana Agriculture  photo contest , which showcases the hard work and contributions made by Hoosier farmers. One-Year Extension Available to Holders of Many Expiring Contracts through Continuous Signup
WASHINGTON, June 1, 2018 – As part of a 33-year effort to protect sensitive lands and improve water quality and wildlife habitat on private lands, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will resume accepting applications for the voluntary  Conservation Reserve Program  (CRP). Eligible farmers, ranchers, and private landowners can sign up at their local  Farm Service Agency (FSA)  office between June 4 and Aug. 17, 2018. Read more ...
