RFP to be issued for Third-Party Providers to provide Plan  Review  & Inspection at DPW

The Growth Coalition has been informed by the City-Parish that they hope to release a Request For Proposal (RFP) in the next 30 days to ultimately develop a list of qualified Third-Party contractors that can serve to supplement the workforce in the permitting and inspection departments, thus shortening turnaround times.  

This is the most recent development in a multi-year cooperative effort between the Growth Coalition, DPW officials, and Metro Councilmember Ryan Heck who sponsored a successful ordinance in 2014  allowing for third-party providers to supplement DPW staff for plan review and inspections.

In related news, it was also reported last week by The Baton Rouge Business Report that Heck would propose an ordinance requiring the City-Parish to act on building permit applications within 10 days of its submittal, or the permit would be automatically approved. A similar ordinance was proposed in 2014, but did not succeed.

Farewell to a Friend

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Growth Coalition membership, we would like to pay our respects to the late Ronnie Edwards who passed away last week after a lengthy battle with cancer. In both her capacities as Metro Councilwoman, and  most recently as a State Representative, Edwards was a genuine public servant and an invaluable member of the Baton Rouge community. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to her family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Ronnie.
