Fourth Quarter

Dear High School Families,

Good afternoon!  It is hard to believe that the 4th quarter is upon us! It did not arrive in the way we initially anticipated it, but we have a plan for how we will move forward in these unpredictable times. This month's newsletter focuses on our extended learning plan for students that will begin on Monday, March 30, how parents can support their student at this time, along with an update on Prom and Graduation.

We always welcome your feedback and appreciate you bringing questions or concerns to our attention.  The following information will give a brief overview of Republic High School.  Please do not hesitate to contact us at 417-732-3650 for more information.

Please review this month's newsletter for upcoming information.  We are excited to #LeadTheWay and #WINtheDay with you!

Parent Support for our Extended Learning Plan

  • The RHS extended learning plan for students will begin Monday, March 30
  • I will continue to support and motivate the academic and personal growth of my student during this time.
  • I will have my student notify his or her teachers if we do not have internet access and wish to complete alternative assignments via paper/pencil.
  • If I have not done so already, I will sign up for Canvas.
  • Parents and students may want to utilize the Canvas app. Use the search term "republicschools" when registering in the Canvas app.
  • I will update my Canvas notifications so I can track my student's learning progress.
  • I understand that I can add my phone number to receive text message notifications or a personal email address for Canvas notifications.
  • We recommend to add email/text notifications right away so you can receive global announcements that are sent out in Canvas.
  • We recommend email notifications to provide at least a Daily Summary of course content, announcements, grading, discussions, and conversations.
  • I will learn how to use the Inbox messaging feature in Canvas to communicate with teachers, along with still using email.
  • I will track the weekly academic progress of my student.
  • I will communicate with my student's teacher(s) if we have questions or need clarification.

Graduation

At this time, no changes have been made for our plans to conduct graduation for the Class of 2020. It is still scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m. at JQH Arena on the campus of Missouri State University. We will notify our students and families of any changes to this plan as they arise.

Extended Learning Plan for Students

Purpose:
To continue fulfilling the RHS mission of preparing each student for a successful future.

What to Expect:
  • Beginning Monday, March 30, teachers will provide you with educational activities to further your learning in each course. While these activities are optional at this time, we encourage you to complete all activities and assignments in order to advance your understanding of course content.
  • These will be made available to you in Canvas no later than 7:30 am on Monday each week beginning on March 30.
  • Teachers will communicate with you regarding re-submitting or making up work from earlier in 2nd semester. The goal is to help you improve your grades if possible.
  • Teachers will provide a schedule to you of the times they are available for immediate response. This schedule will be posted in Canvas.
  • Teachers will respond to emails/messages within 24 hours of receiving them.
  • If you do not have consistent internet access, you may contact your teacher and request paper copies of your assignments.  If that is the case, your teachers will send assignments to the office which will be printed for you. You may come to the high school to collect any paper copies on weekdays between 7:00 am-3:00 pm.

Student Expectations:
  • I will check my email and Canvas messages daily
  • I will update my Canvas notifications.
  • I understand that I can add my phone number to receive text message notifications or a personal email address for Canvas notifications.
  • I will learn how to use the Inbox messaging feature in Canvas to communicate with teachers, along with still using email.
  • I will look at the weekly learning activities for each of my courses.
I will organize and prioritize the lessons for me to accomplish.
  • I will reach out to fellow students to ask questions as needed.
  • I will contact my teachers if I need clarification or have questions.
  • I will complete and submit my assignments each week.
  • I will practice social distancing, take time daily to improve myself, and support others to help them better themselves.
Chromebook Issues:

  • If you are experiencing issues with your Chromebook and need tech assistance, please contact the high school at 732-3650.

Prom

After much deliberation and consideration, it has been decided that the RHS Prom scheduled for April 11 has been postponed until further notice. RHS administration is working with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department based off their recommendations to determine an appropriate make-up date. We will send out more information when it is known.
