Time Management
Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1-2 p.m.
Metcalf Institute will host a time management workshop featuring Dr. Raul Pacheco-Vega, associate professor with the Methods Lab at the American Faculty for Social Sciences in Mexico, to help participants identify effective ways to approach time management. We will discuss challenges facing students and scholars, and Dr. Pacheco-Vega’s framework to help find the right approach for all of our different personalities.

Meeting the Challenge of Communicating Scientific Uncertainty
Friday, Oct. 16, 9-10:30 a.m.
Dr. Jean Goodwin, distinguished professor of communication and member of the Leadership in Public Science cluster at North Carolina State University, will present a mini-workshop on best practices for navigating the challenges of communicating with public audiences about the inherent uncertainty in research. Participants will be better equipped to handle questions from non-experts, including the press and other researchers.

Call for Proposals
2021 RI STAC Collaborative Grants
The RI Science and Technology Advisory Council (RI STAC) has opened a call for proposals for it's 2021 Collaborative Research Grants. Supported in participation with RI NSF EPSCoR, eligible submissions should address research questions related to our current grant, RI C-AIM.

The Common Thread: A four-part virtual series
Sept. 9-Oct. 7
A collaboration between RISD's Nature Lab, a RI C-AIM core facility, and Southeastern New England Fibershed, The Common Thread virtual series will explore the commonalities within the systems of land, waste, material, and color and how they can intersect with various modes of thought to drive positive change.

Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 12 & 13
Join 500 Women Scientists for a free virtual screening this weekend of Picture a Scientist that lasts a whole weekend! The documentary paints a nuanced, emotional but unflinching portrait of the struggles women in science have faced in recent decades and challenges audiences of all backgrounds and genders to question their own implicit biases, and move toward change.

DAC's Mosley-Austin and Martins take on new roles at URI, Bryant
|
Dr. Alycia Mosley-Austin has been recently named interim Associate Dean of URI's Graduate School, while Dr. Kevin Martins has also been named Assistant Vice-President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Bryant University . Mosley-Austin most recently served as Associate Director of URI's Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program and Assistant Dean for Graduate Recruitment and Diversity Initiatives. She also established URI's Diversity & Inclusion Badge Program. Before taking this new position, Martins served as Director of the PwC Center for Diversity and Inclusion at Bryant. Congratulations and best of luck in your new positions!

Grad student receives first Career Development Program certificate
|
Timo Kuester, a doctoral candidate in chemical engineering at the University of Rhode Island, is the first to earn RI C-AIM's Career Development Program certificate. Reid secures first NSF grant for Bryant
|
RI C-AIM's Dr. Christopher Reid, Associate Professor of Science and Technology, recently received a three-year, $296,275 chemical biology grant to study bacterial cell wall metabolism, the first individual grant awarded to a Bryant faculty member.
