RI PTAC and the Rhode Island District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration will host a virtual outreach event with a Small Business Procurement Specialist from the Veterans Administration Regional Procurement Office. Attend this online presentation and learn about how to become a successful small business vendor with the VA. Q & A session after the presentation.

There is NEVER a fee to register as a government contractor

The first step in pursuing federal government contracts is registering in the System for Award Management (SAM), the federal government’s vendor database. There is not a fee to register with SAM.

For those who’d like help with SAM registrations, certification applications or any other government contracting issue, Procurement Technical Assistance Centers - PTACs provide fee expert assistance with registrations, certifications and all other aspects of government contracting.

Missile Defense Agency

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Office of Small Business Programs outlines how to do business with MDA. You can easily identify the following in their Missile Defense Agency Newsletter:

  • MDA top NAICS codes that businesses can review to see if the MDA buys their products and services. 
  • TEAMS-Next Small Business Set-Aside acquisition opportunities. 
  • MDA Prime Contractors list and NAICS areas of interest codes.

Wide Area Workflow: The DoD's Primary Portal for Invoicing

With the new PIEE release (v6.7.0) commercial users have to set up a 6-digit PIN in your user profile in order to submit payment requests or add new roles.  In addition, WAWF will send a One Time Password (OTP) through either email or mobile device that needs to be entered as well. The OTP expires after 5 minutes.

Prepare for SBA small business programs:
Are you considering applying for any of the SBA's small business programs including: WOSB, 8a, Hubzone, Mentor-Protege. Be prepared to apply by gathering the required documents.

These checklists provide help before you start the application or continuing eligibility process. Each program has unique criteria and thresholds and may request additional supporting information. To make things easier, gather these documents before you start.

Continuing the path to Cybersecurity Maturity

The Department of Defense intends to introduce Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements into contracts on a gradual basis starting in their new fiscal year that begins this October 1st. Ultimately, all new DoD contracts will include CMMC requirements. These foundational security requirements will be applicable to every contractor and subcontractor in the Defense Industrial Base, to secure the supply chain and protect our warfighters.

Companies with contracts or business within the Department of Defense Supply Chain– Primes, Subcontractors to a Prime, or lower tiers
  • Owners, Managers, Sales, Engineers, Purchasing and System Administrators at manufacturing and other businesses in the DoD Supply Chain
  • Managed Services Providers, IT Consultants to manufacturers in the Department of Defense Supply Chain
  • NOTE: Registration is limited to companies in the DoD supply chain.
