A Message from the Superintendent

Dear Ramapo Indian Hills Families,

The expertise, commitment, and teamwork of our entire staff were evident during our recent NJQSAC visit, a "once-every-three-years compliance audit" of all aspects of our district.

While we will not receive official results until later this spring, the county team’s visit went very well and reflected the strong preparation, collaboration, and professionalism across RIH. This work truly represents a collective effort.

Please join me in thanking Mr. Cofini and the RIH Facilities team for their tremendous work following Winter Storm Fern. Their prompt and thorough cleanup - during frigid conditions - ensured our schools were safe, welcoming, and ready for the return of students and staff. A huge shout-out also goes to all those who contributed to the planning, coordination, and release of our storm-related communications. Special thanks to Mr. Belthoff, Mr. Chang, Mr. Bouldin, Ms. Stramiello, Ms. Moscarello, and Mr. Wolff!

With gratitude,

Shauna

On Grid Art Techniques

Grids and collaborative art techniques have been the focus of study for students in Ms. Batti’s Painting, Painting I, and Art classes.

For one project, they have been working with a grid to transfer shapes from photo references to gridded watercolor paper. The grid helps increase accuracy. Students will then work from the sketch to create acrylic paintings.

The 100 color challenge is another technique being explored. How many colors can students create with primary and secondary colors?

The collaborative grid project allows students to choose a section and make it their own. Once completed, when viewed as a whole, these individual sections reveal a single image.

They Just Kept Swimming

Congratulations to the Indian Hills Girls Swim team, who just took home 5th place at the Bergen County Meet of Champions!

The team has had really good success this year and has seen many swimmers set new personal bests!

Musical Magic

Our very own IHHS Bravados took the stage at Cherry Hill East this past Saturday for the Varsity Vocals Quarterfinals! After winning the preliminaries last October, these 12 talented singers put in a massive 12-hour day to deliver a performance we won't soon forget.

Under the direction of Susan Heerema and choreographer Alex Heerema, the group performed "Sound of Silence," "The Longest Time," and "Leave A Light On." Shoutout to our incredible soloists—Ryleigh Burchell, Matthew Khanlian, Jesse Magee, and Michael Reisch—and the entire ensemble for their stunning harmonies!

Save the Date: See the Bravados live at the IHHS Spring Concert on May 19, 2026.

Want to be a part of the magic? Ms. Heerema is looking for new voices! Drop by the choir room if you're interested in joining the next ensemble.

Athletes of the Week

Ramapo senior Sandra Vitolo is making the most of a tough winter season, excelling in hurdles, relays, and the long jump despite frigid training conditions. Fresh off anchoring Ramapo’s winning 4x400 and posting top marks across multiple events, Vitolo continues to shine at elite indoor venues like the Armory. A State Meet of Champions medalist and the school’s long jump record holder, she recently committed to Cornell, where she’ll compete in hurdles and jumps. Her focus now: leading Ramapo to another sectional title and elevating her own standing at the states.

Ramapo senior wrestler Gino Gorga earned Bergen County gold at 175 pounds after a dominant 5–0 run that included three technical falls and a semifinal win over a state-ranked opponent. A former football standout who battled back from last year’s injury, Gorga has become a steady leader for a resurgent Ramapo program that has now secured four straight division titles. Known for embracing tough matchups and staying grounded despite growing up in the public eye, he’s focused on pushing through regions and chasing a state medal as February approaches.

Ramapo Band Member Accepted to NJ All-State Symphonic Band

Congratulations to senior trombonist Natalie Woo, who earned a spot in the New Jersey All‑State Symphonic Band after placing 9th out of 34 trombones statewide. Selected through a highly competitive audition process, Natalie now joins some of the top high school musicians in New Jersey in a long‑standing tradition of musical excellence dating back to 1937.

The All‑State Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Treble Chorus will perform in two showcase concerts co‑presented by the New Jersey Music Educators Association and NJPAC’s Arts Education Department: February 21, 2026, at the Atlantic City Convention Center and February 22, 2026, at NJPAC in Newark.

Soup's on!

The competition is, anyway!

Students in our district are competing to see which school can collect the most soup cans before February 6th.

All donations will go to local shelters and Ponds Church, to serve the needy.

You can stay up-to-date with the latest sports schedules.

Choose Ramapo or Indian Hills to see who is playing, where, and when!
