Dear Ramapo Indian Hills Families,
May is such an exciting time. From spring concerts and art shows to athletic accomplishments and celebrations of student achievement, there is an incredible energy across our schools that brings so much pride and joy.
As we move closer to the finish line of another successful school year, there is still important work ahead. Many of our students completed Advanced Placement exams this past week, and beginning Monday, our 9th and 11th grade students will participate in NJSLA state testing.
What continues to inspire me most is the way our students rise to every opportunity placed before them — whether in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, or through their artistic talents. We continue moving forward together, motivated and energized by the success of our students.
In response to the new state law taking effect this September, RIH has been hard at work standardizing our approach to cell phone use during the school day.
While many of our teachers already use "bell to bell" classroom time practices to keep distractions at bay, we’ve assembled a committee to ensure these expectations are consistent across the district. Our goal is to protect instructional time while still respecting the needs of our students and families.
Some basic “need to know” info is below:
- Cell phone use will not be permitted during instructional time.
- Students will continue to have access to their devices during unit lunch, passing periods, and scheduled study halls.
- Device management and responsibilities for students, teachers, and parents will be clearly outlined and folded into our district Code of Conduct.
Over the coming months, keep an eye on our website, email, and social media for more details and helpful resources.
We’re excited to move forward with a plan that puts education first while keeping our community connected!
With gratitude,
Shauna DeMarco
