A Message from the Superintendent

Hello RIH Families, Students, and Staff,

Spring Brings New Opportunities for Growth and Learning

Spring has sprung, and that means planning for the upcoming school year is in full swing. As we look ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, we are excited to recommend approval of our 25-26 SY budget at the RIHRHSD Board of Education meeting on April 28th. (A detailed overview of the preliminary budget meeting from March 17th is available on our website for your reference).

The 2025-2026 SY budget, combined with the transition to a Rotating Drop Block Schedule and a Later Start Time, is designed to support student growth, well-being, and future readiness. Here are some of the key initiatives that will drive this vision forward:

Rotating Block Schedule: Longer class periods will allow for deeper learning, project-based instruction, and greater flexibility in how lessons are delivered.

Later Start Time & Unit Lunch: Aimed at enhancing student wellness, fostering collaboration, and ensuring a more balanced school day.

Curriculum & Professional Development: Ongoing focus on curriculum alignment and innovation, supported by homegrown professional development that aligns with district goals.

Targeted Student Support: Data will guide efforts to identify and support at-risk students, reduce chronic absenteeism, and promote equity across classrooms.

Assessment & Readiness: We will continue working to improve student performance on standardized assessments and ensure our students are well-prepared for postsecondary success.

Expanding Program Pathways: We are creating more opportunities for students to explore their interests through specialized programs, internships, and real-world learning experiences.

These initiatives underscore our ongoing commitment to providing excellence, equity, and meaningful engagement for every student. We look forward to working together to create an environment where our students can thrive both now and in the future, and we thank you for your continued support.

Yours in Education,

Shauna C. DeMarco

Earth Day 2025

On Tuesday, April 22nd, students observed Earth Day.

Established in 1970, Earth Day originated as a national day of environmentalism and activism.

Our students spent the month of April exploring many opportunities to focus on environmental issues and better ways to care for our planet.

Guest speaker, Julia Grieger, a Process Scientist for Thames Water in England, gave a virtual presentation on water quality and her role in helping bring clean water to communities around the world.

Members of the Indian Hills environmental club channeled their passion for the environment into fun and colorful craft projects.

Fields of Excellence Award

Back in March, our grounds and maintenance crew at Ramapo High School received recognition from Pioneer Athletics for the excellent quality of the athletics fields there. Ramapo was one of only two schools in New Jersey to be honored with this award, which is open to all schools in the nation.

On Wednesday, April 23rd, Steve Every, a representative from Pioneer Athletics, visited the school to present the official Fields of Excellence banner to the team. Building Foreman, Ralph Kesenheimer, John Maguire, and Vinny Bulzomi posed with the banner underneath the scoreboard. Fellow team member, Steve Sanderson was not available for the photograph.

Look for the banner the next time you're at the concessions stand, it will be hung there proudly in the coming days.

Congratulations to the crew that cares for our fields on a job well done!
