Learn About Our Manufacturers Round Table Discussion with Congressman Langevin
On October 27th, Congressman Langevin attended the Round Table Discussion and met with the RI Advisory Committee.
He noted the following about Career and Technical Education
  • The House passed H.R. 2353, the bipartisan Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act.
  • Was proud to co-lead the bill with my Republican colleague, and CTE caucus co-chair, U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson from Pennsylvania.
  • The bill makes several improvements to the Perkins Act, the main federal investment in CTE. Among these are:
  • Better aligning CTE programs with industry needs
  • Promoting apprenticeships
  • An overall increase of federal investment in CTE by 9% over the next five years

  • Labor Department: Manufacturers Accelerate Hiring As US Economy Added 261,000 Jobs In October.
  • Reuters (11/3, Mutikani) reported that the Labor Department announced Friday the US economy added 261,000 jobs in October, which "was the largest gain since July 2016 but below economists' expectations for a jump of 310,000 jobs." The department also said it revised job data for September upward, "to show a gain of 18,000 jobs instead of a decline of 33,000 as previously reported." President Trump tweeted "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!" upon the release of the report. Reuters added that the "unemployment rate fell to near a 17-year low of 4.1 percent in October, from 4.2 percent in the prior month,"
