Hello RIMS Washington Chapter Members and Supporters!
It was wonderful to see you at our December 9th Forum Social House! It’s been three long years since our Chapter hosted an in-person Holiday Party! Thank you to everyone who attended. This year we’ve had the honor of supporting YWCA's Gift Giving Program (Formerly Adopt-A-Family). The Chapter is donating $720, which will help support a family of four purchase gifts and groceries this holiday season. A special thank you to our 2022 Chapter and our 2020 Education Forum Sponsors for making our holiday party possible.

On a personal note, I will be heading out on maternity leave in early January 2023. The other Washington Chapter Officers are graciously stepping-in to fill the President role during my absence. A special thank you to our Vice President, Kristine Costanza; our Treasurer, Megan Henshaw; and our Secretary, Sean Hisey.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our in-person Education Forum on March 16th! Our Planning Committee has been hard at work developing sessions and sourcing fabulous speakers! I hope to see you there.

- Joann Gomez, Division Vice President, Risk Management – Liberty Mutual
- Christian Jewett, West Region Manager for Financial Lines – Zurich

As we wrap up 2022, we continue to navigate a period of great volatility and uncertainty. Join us as we hear from expert leaders from FM Global, Zurich and others as we discuss the realities of today's challenging landscape, provide an update on current insurance market trends, loss prevention and identify key considerations for the path forward. What continues as a firming insurance market, has become even more challenged as a result of the convergence of factors ranging from increasing loss frequency and severity, to a reduction of capital, heightened focus on profitability and pending Business Interruption, supply chain and valuation challenges, and new nuclear verdict concerns. We will discuss the impact of these circumstances reflected in the hardening insurance market across the board, and including Cyber!
In addition, this panel discussion will discuss key considerations around evaluating risk and setting realistic expectations for the current market conditions and potential impact on budget.

New Member: Christine James,
Managing Director – Marine Claims at Penser North America
Why did you join RIMS Washington (i.e. community, education, networking, career requirement) and what are you hoping to get out of your membership?
I joined RIMS Washington in the hopes of networking with my new venture Penser Marine, a division of Penser North America. RIMS also provides excellent continuing education opportunities. Several friends have joined and recommended RIMS as a great insurance network to be a part of.
Describe your career path and current role.
Currently, I am the Managing Director for Penser Marine which is a newly created marine division of Penser North America which is a Washington based Third Party Administrator. I have spent the last 25 years in commercial insurance with a focus on maritime commerce involving crew injury/illness claims and hull and machinery claims, Penser Marine allows me to build and create with the support of a successful Third Party Administrator. I have worked as the insurance side, the employer side and now the Third Party Administrator side which gives a broad perspective of what motivators are for each piece of an insurance loss.
What is your favorite small/local business?
I live in Lake Stevens and when I can, I prefer to give my business to several local businesses that are privately owned. I would tell anyone in the area to go to any of these for great services and support of our local economy. King Charley’s Drive In in Snohomish became a family favorite when we moved here from Alaska, Salon Michelle in Lake Stevens is where my family gets their hair cut and Jenny Cookies Bake Shop in Lake Stevens is where family birthday cakes are ordered. There are so many great small businesses around here, I couldn’t choose just one!

January 22nd – Lunar New Year
|
Year of the Rabbit. Lunar New Year is the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. The first day of the Lunar New Year begins on the new moon that appears between January 21st and February 20th.
The festival was traditionally a time to honor deities as well as ancestors. It is traditional for every family to thoroughly clean their house, in order to sweep away any ill fortune and make way for incoming good luck.
