Living in Germany
Where the Gnomes live
Germany's Garden Colonies

If you've visited Germany, you may have noticed some strange, thrown-together huts and allotments when passing by the outskirts of a city or looking outside the window on a train. These are actually small gardens which have been firmly rooted in German culture since 1864. Originally gardens of the poor, they have become a staple of German culture.

Fun Fact
Birthday Superstition

Have you ever congratulated a German two days before their birthday? If so, the angry stares will make sure you never do so again.

In Germany, it is considered bad luck to congratulate a person before their actual birthday. Always wait till midnight, and then try again.
Application Tip #12
