Rhode Island State Police Investigate Crash Involving a Pedestrian
At approximately 12:09 AM, Troopers responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Route 146 North in the Town of North Smithfield. The pedestrian has been identified as Adam Belhumeur, age 38, of Cumberland, RI.
The preliminary investigation reveals that at a point approximately 2000 feet south of the intersection with Sayles Hill Avenue, Belhumeur was attempting to cross Route 146 North. As he entered the high speed lane, Belhumeur was struck by a sedan. Belhumeur sustained serious injuries as a result and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by North Smithfield Rescue. He remains in serious but stable condition.
The operator of the sedan stopped immediately, no signs of impairment were observed.
