Sylvia A. Ojoo, MBChB, DTM&H, MRCP, Faculty Director and Resident Field Director in East Africa for the Center for Global Health Practice and Impact, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center has been appointed to the board of the Kenya National AIDS Control Council. The Council is charged with leading, mobilizing resources for, and coordinating the implementation of the HIV response in Kenya. As an infectious diseases physician, Ojoo has played a critical role in the HIV epidemic control.

New undergraduate move-in is scheduled for August 18-19 while returning students will move in on August 21, significantly impacting parking and traffic on campus. Parking pass holders who typically work on the main campus or at the medical center who are not involved with move-in are encouraged to discuss with their supervisors the possibility of teleworking on those dates. Sponsorships are available for two to three faculty members to attend the AAMC Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar, a leadership development program for associate-level faculty who are historically underrepresented in medicine, October 13-15 . All full-time GUMC faculty members from any track, any school (SOH, SOM or SON) at the rank of associate professor or professor who identify as a member of an underrepresented population in academic medicine by AAMC’s definition are welcome to apply.
