Committed to building better lives by investing in the communities where we live and work.

ABOUT US

RK Industries (RK) is the parent company of seven wholly-owned subsidiaries focused on construction, manufacturing, fabrication and building services. We operate six manufacturing and fabrication facilities in the greater Denver area and have helped to construct some of the most prominent buildings shaping the Denver skyline. For 60 years, RK has had the privilege of supporting numerous nonprofits and charities that improve the quality of life in our community. RK has been dedicated to providing financial support for organizations that help people in need. Today, we continue our proud tradition of philanthropy through the RK Foundation.

Established in 2011, the RK Foundation is directed by the Kinning family and oversees our charitable efforts. The foundation allocates grant funding and supports employee volunteer hours to local nonprofits and causes that align with our three focus areas: community development, education, and health.

The RK Foundation is funded by recycling all the scrap metal produced at RK’s six shop facilities, construction projects and service sites. All proceeds are directed to the RK Foundation, which supports community organizations in a unique and sustainable funding model.

UPDATES AND HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2022

HELEN AND ARTHUR E. JOHNSON DEPRESSION CENTER

The RK Foundation made a grant to the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center to support the development of a workplace mental health consulting program. The funding will provide financial support and serve as a pilot for development and potentially connect us with other organizations. The idea is to create a program that includes initial workplace assessments, ongoing coaching and education, and training focused on shifting workplace culture around mental health and suicide prevention.

TEACHING THE AUTISM COMMUNITY TRADES

The mission of Teaching The Autism Community Trades (TACT) is to encourage and empower the full spectrum of individuals with autism through education and employment in the skilled trades. The autism community is the highest unemployment sector in the US, currently at 90%. TACT’s programs, similar to trade school, will lead their students to employable jobs with the goal of lasting careers that are personally fulfilling and suited to each individual’s strengths. Established in 2016, TACT recently opened its new Englewood facility.

CROSS PURPOSE

The RK Foundation made a second grant to the local non-profit CrossPurpose. The organization is a tuition-free, six-month career and community development program that empowers motivated individuals to develop personally, receive professional skills training in a specific career field, such as construction, and land a full-time career that pays well and offers advancement opportunities and benefits. CrossPurpose recently opened its second location in Englewood and works collaboratively with government agencies, housing facilities, case managers and community partners throughout the metro area to help individuals lift themselves out of poverty.

FUNDING

The RK Foundation granted $275,550 in 2022, with a cumulative total of $2,168,775 granted since its inception in 2011. Each quarter, the RKF Board of Directors reviews grant applications and determines which organizations best align with our core advocacy areas and our mission.
