(Bhagavad Gita 18, 55)

"Only by loving devotion to me does one come to know who I am in truth. Then, having come to know me, my devotee enters into full consciousness of me."

From the Editor's Desk

Dear Devotees,

Profound Vedic knowledge may attest one's scholarship, but it does not fetch tranquility to the mind, if not amalgamated with unwavering devotion to God. Merely acquiring the knowledge from the Vedas (scriptures) does not boost our spiritual growth or enhance our spiritual experience. "The path of spirituality requires many ingredients - knowledge, devotion, faith, detachment, enthusiasm, inspiration, and much more," specifies Swami Mukundananda ji. Exclusive devotion, especially, is the key ingredient. When we blend our knowledge with devotion, we rise!
Devotion - The Key to Enlightenment

We can't attain divine knowledge of God by our sheer intellect, as our intellect is made from the material energy. Hence, our thoughts, understanding, and wisdom are confined to the material realm; God and his divine realm remain entirely beyond the scope of our material intellect. The Vedas emphatically declare that those who think they can understand God with their intellect have no understanding of God. The only way to attain him is to absorb our mind in him and him alone in loving devotion, and make him the paramount object of every thought and activity. The Yajur Veda states:
तस्यनोरास्वतस्यनोधेही
tasya no rāsva tasya no dhehī (12)

"Without bathing oneself in the nectar emanating from the lotus feet of God, no one can know him." Thus, true knowledge of God is not a result of our intellectual gymnastics but a consequence of divine grace. God does not choose the recipient of his grace in a whimsical manner. Rather, he bestows it upon those who unite their minds with him in devotion. When one such blessed soul receives his grace, he destroys the darkness in their heart with the lamp of wisdom.

If devotion is the only means for attaining him, then it's imperative we be conscious of the characteristics of those who engage in his exclusive devotion. An accomplished devotee:
  • Performs every activity for the pleasure of God.
  • Has faith in God's grace alone, and perceives devotion as merely a way of attracting divine grace.
  • Is devoted to God alone, and discerns the beloved Lord pervading all objects and personalities.
  • Is free from the worldly attachments and reposes the mind in God alone
  • Does not harbor any malice; instead, forgives even the wrongdoers as God resides in the heart of all beings.
Therefore, the mystery of God's form, virtues, pastimes, abode, and associates can only be comprehended through unalloyed devotion. And our supreme goal is selfless devotion.

Wellness for Life - Yoga for balancing the five elements of our being

Our body is made up of five elements - earth, water, fire, air, ether. These elements are the building blocks of our body. Each of the five elements represents a state of matter in nature, and the law of nature necessitates that these elements be in balance. Each element is responsible for different structures in the body:

  1. Earth forms solid structures such as teeth, nails, bones, muscles, skin, tissues, and hair. These give structure and strength to the body.

  2. Water forms saliva, sweat, blood, urine, and semen.
  3. Fire forms hunger, thirst, sleep, the vision in the eyes, and complexion of skin.
  4. Air is responsible for all movement including expansion, contraction, vibration, and suppression.
  5. Space is the subtlest of all elements and is present in the hollow cavities of the body in the form of radio frequencies, light radiation, cosmic rays etc.
  6.

Yoga helps achieve the balance of these five elements in the body. Read more on how Yoga cleanses and balances the 5 elements.
