GREETINGS FROM OUR FOUNDER

Can you believe it is almost fall? I can't. In Southern California, the weather certainly doesn't feel like it!

In July, we celebrated our residential program and safe house being open for one year.  We are especially excited to share with you about one of our residents, *N (initial only used to protect confidentiality), who is now in her sixth month of being here in our residential program. That is a huge accomplishment! Before coming into our program, N had very little trauma therapy and what therapy she did have, had been a very negative experience. Because
engaging in individual therapy is a core part of our program, she agreed to give it another try but was hesitant. The first few weeks were rough and we wondered if she would ever feel safe enough to trust her therapist to let some walls down. But in time, we began to see some change. About 4 months into the program, she shared with me that our staff therapist was the first therapist that ever made her feel like she genuinely cared about her as a person and not just a case to be passed around in the system. Since trust and safety are two foundational things that must be established for the real work of healing and helping to begin, this was a huge step in the therapeutic process. We are so thankful for the trauma healing support that we are able to provide for our residents through individual and group therapy. This is a direct result of the support that we receive from you. Thank you for partnering with us to make seeds of healing possible for survivors!

Serving with you,

Charlene Heydorn, Founder & CEO

When you think of the sex-trafficking industry and the environment it flourishes in, do you picture a low-income, dirty urban area or an affluent, suburban one? Did you picture both? For whichever reason, pop culture influence or a lack of information, wealthy communities are often seen as "immune" to the darkness of the sex-trafficking industry. ...»

On June 26th, 2018 Joseph Blake Ballard, at only 22 years old, was charged with the felony counts of trafficking, pimping and pandering two women in Irvine, CA. Joseph was caught because one of his victims contacted the Irvine Police Department from a gas station after being kicked out of the hotel room the three were sharing. From there the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force (OCHTTF) investigated the case and located and arrested Joseph at the hotel. ...»

People tend to have many questions about the sex-trafficking industry, but one that is often skirted around and avoided is the question of why some victims "choose" to stay in their captor's hands. "Why won't she just run away?" ...»

A core part of our residential program and wrap-around or holistic care for sex trafficked survivors, involves spiritual development. The women who enter our program come from all different faith backgrounds, and all are welcome. But we do offer Christ-centered activities for those who are interested in participating. ...»
