AMSA Hosts Largest RMC in History!

As I think back to last week from today and the final session of the AMSA 76th RMC, I am amazed and humbled! Amazed to work in an industry and with our members that make an impact day in and day out. You show up, give it your all, and then wake up and do it all over again. I am humbled by your desire to give back to your community, your peers, and the next generation.

A special thank you to our Elite and Executive RMC Sponsors JBS Foods, Pilgrims, Swift Prepared Foods, Cargill, Midan and Tyson Foods, along with all our other 2023 RMC sponsors listed below! Because of your support and dedication to the AMSA RMC, we were able to welcome over 970 attendees, host 135 speakers, set a record with 34 quiz bowl teams representing 20 schools, engage with 150 students in the Iron Chef competition, and set a record with a t-shirt auction that raised over $50K for the AMSA Meat the Future Fund to invest back in AMSA programs. None of this would be possible without the support of our sponsors, so thank you!

Dr. Mindy Brashears, 2023 RMC chair, states it best, “No other organization means more to me than AMSA, and having the opportunity to chair RMC 2023 was one of the greatest honors of my career. I was impressed with the depth of the scientific program and the energy we had at the social events and student competitions. Most of all, I appreciate everyone championing the “sparkle” concept. We are AMSA, and we will continue to shine because of our members and show the world the value of our meat industry. Thank you again for your participation, and we look forward to next year!”

A special thank you goes to our co-hosts for the 76th RMC, Hormel Foods Corporation and the University of Minnesota-St. Paul, led by Brian Andrews. You welcomed us with open arms and great hospitality. The time and dedication you and your team put into planning all the details for the social and student events was truly amazing! From the venues to the food and even the weather, it was all amazing! Thank you for rolling out the red carpet and welcoming us all to St. Paul. “The 76th RMC was fantastic, from the scientific meetings to reciprocation and student events. Knowledge was gained, and relationships were fostered. I would like to give special thanks to Dr. Brashears and the entire RMC planning committee, the host committee, and the AMSA staff for hosting this great conference. It was an honor to serve as the AMSA President this past year," stated Dr. Gretchen Mafi, 2022-2023 AMSA President.

Next up is a special thank you to Dr. Mindy Brashears from Texas Tech University. Her sparkle set the theme for an outstanding week of networking and collaboration. She inspired the committee and challenged them to think about new ideas and new speakers to bring to the 2023 RMC to make the program better and more engaging than it has ever been. Thank you to all the 2023 RMC chairs and co-chairs of our technical program and student events. Your time and preparation in planning these events and working with the speakers for each of the sessions is valued more than you will ever know.

Thank you to our members! Thank you for coming to the 76th RMC and for participating in all the different events we showcased last week. From the student events to the career fair, the technical sessions, and everything in between, your participation is vital to the success of these programs and the networking that takes place. The RMC supplier showcase and the tech talks helped enhance the experience and knowledge of our sustaining partner and supplier coalition members. Thanks to everyone who had a booth and presented a talk. These unique opportunities make RMC a valuable learning experience for our attendees.

Now you might be asking, what’s next? For starters, make sure to mark your calendar and make plans to attend the 2024 RMC that will take place June 16-19, 2023, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma! If you missed the 2024 Welcome Video, check it out below!

What did you think of RMC 2023?

Thank you to those that attended the 76th RMC last week in St. Paul, Minnesota! With over 970 attendees, it is very important that we hear from you as we start planning the 2024 RMC! The survey from start to finish should take about 10-15 minutes, this might seem long, but your feedback is very important! So, if there is a program idea you have, a speaker you think should be invited, or if you loved the kickball game and want it to stay, please let us know!

If you have already completed the 2023 RMC survey, thanks so much! If you have not, please take a few minutes to complete it. If you did not receive a survey link, please let us know at information@meatscience.org! The survey will close on July 14, 2023, at 12 pm CT.

Thanks again, your input is valuable to us!
