WHAT IS "NORTH DAKOTA LEGENDARY"?

The state tourism office of North Dakota continues to play a necessary role in bringing visitation to the “Peace Garden State.” Their team actively works to “build the positive public image of North Dakota as a dynamic place to live and work; by showcasing opportunities and inspiring visitors to Be Legendary, we strengthen the economy and provide opportunity for people across our communities.” – North Dakota Tourism & Marketing mission

THE "BE LEGENDARY" BRAND

Want to learn more about what it means to “Be Legendary”? Hear it from North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum here and learn why North Dakota is the state where you can “Be Legendary”.

In addition to their domestic marketing efforts, North Dakota Tourism is also one state within a five-state international marketing cooperative program better known as the Great American West. Comprised of the states of Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming, the Great American West works to bring incremental international tourism visitation to the entire region.

DID YOU KNOW: North Dakota Edition

Based on North Dakota’s 2023 Annual Report, the state had the following tourism metrics:

Also, congratulations to these six powerhouses from various North Dakota Tourism organizations for winning this year’s North Dakota Travel Conference awards!

NORTH DAKOTA'S GREAT AMERICAN WEST PARTNERS

RMI TRAVEL

Kim traveled to Fargo for North Dakota’s Travel Industry Conference April 8-10. Here's what she had to say about it:

“What a wonderful host city! I always have a great time in Fargo, but this one was special: I got to meet some new faces at the conference and see all of my favorite familiar ones, too; visit some new spots I hadn't been before, my favorite being the newly opened Brewhalla market, hotel and events center; and walked away with a North Dakota memento: a couple North Dakota-born sunflower seeds that have already started to sprout! Looking forward to seeing these grow in my backyard this summer.”

The crew was in Casper ahead of the IRU tradeshow for Great American West Summit Meetings April 18-19 to meet with key stakeholders to recap the GAW program and set plans and goals for the upcoming fiscal year. We had a record number of state and partner delegates attend in person this year, in addition to all of our in-market international representatives, which has been key to streamlining our efforts and driving the success of this brand in seven overseas markets. We're looking forward to rolling into FY25 strong!

IRU 2024 successfully closed out on April 22, and we hope all attendees found the event both useful and beneficial to their business. After IRU concluded, all five states headed out of Casper for post-fams to their respective states. Alyssa went to North Dakota to experience the rich history and deepen her knowledge of the state for herself! “I had never been to North Dakota before, so I was extra excited to cross a new state off my list,” she said. “Fred Walker from North Dakota Tourism was a great guide and really made North Dakota come to life for me; planning on going back ASAP!”

To those who submitted post-IRU event surveys, thank you for your time and feedback. We are looking forward to incorporating some of your comments at future events to make IRU 2025 and the years to come even better!

If you haven’t already heard, Rapid City, South Dakota, will host IRU 2025! Elvira has already had a great kick-off meeting with the Rapid City and South Dakota teams, and together, we will continue to make IRU spectacular for all attendees.

Stay tuned for email updates starting this August about IRU 2025, scheduled for May 6-9!

U.S. Travel Association’s IPW was held May 3-7, 2024. Evan and Mathias attended on behalf of RMI along with the thousands of exhibitors, buyers, media and other attendees that descended on Los Angeles to conduct business and promote travel to the United States. RMI made dozens of new connections and strengthened existing relationships across the industry. This event is the leading inbound travel trade show, and nothing beats face-to-face interactions like we experienced at IPW. We look forward to attending next June 14-18 for IPW 2025 in Chicago!

In connection with the event, the Great American West states hosted a Buckle Club Reception on May 5 at Boomtown Brewery in the LA Arts District. Over 300 guests were in attendance for a great night to celebrate the Western spirit and enjoy seasonal brews and a tasty taco buffet. Seeing so many wonderful tourism professionals wearing their Great American West belt buckle with pride was quite a sight. It was truly an amazing night of Western fun and camaraderie.

Elvira enjoyed a getaway to Europe, visiting her family in Germany and Switzerland. The weather cooperated, allowing for an amazing trip surrounded by spectacular scenery and loved ones. Nothing beats local delicacies, a great hike and quality time spent with family.
