This month in Tech Notes, we’re spotlighting accessible educational media during a TA-Live! session featuring Cindy Camp from the Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP). She will share how DCMP’s free resources, including captioned and described videos, teacher tools, and accessibility training, can support students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired. Learn how to integrate these tools into your classroom and discover new features designed to enhance learning for all.

Brisk Teaching

Brisk Teaching is an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Chrome and Edge extension designed to save teachers time and simplify classroom tasks. It works right inside the tools educators already use like Google Docs, Slides, PDF documents, and YouTube so you can create, adapt, and deliver instruction without jumping between platforms. Think of it as your AI companion for planning, grading, and differentiation.

Why it’s great for educators:

  • Time-saver: Generate lesson plans, quizzes, rubrics, and even substitute plans in seconds.
  • Differentiation made easy: Adjust reading levels, translate content into 40+ languages, and scaffold lessons for all learners.
  • Feedback powerhouse: Use modes like Glow & Grow or rubric-based comments to give personalized, actionable feedback instantly.
  • Privacy-first: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) compliant with no student accounts, no unnecessary data collection, and strong security measures.

Bonus for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH):

Brisk’s ability to translate and adapt text, create visual presentations, and integrate with captioned videos makes it ideal for accessible instruction. Teachers can quickly generate materials that pair with American Sign Language (ASL) glossaries or transcripts, ensuring multiple pathways for comprehension.

Please join RMTC-DHH for See the Sound – Visual Phonics.

See the Sound – Visual Phonics is a multisensory, evidence-based intervention approach to phonics instruction rooted in the Science of Reading. It features a system of unique hand movements and symbols that represent the sounds of English, without the ambiguity of English orthography. This includes sounds commonly referred to as vowels, consonants, diphthongs, and digraphs.

See the Sound – Visual Phonics is not an additional curriculum, but a strategy that can be integrated into existing phonics-based curricula or interventions.
