RNA Board of Directors Proposes Amendments to Bylaws

RNA Board of Directors is proposing a change in the bylaws to delineate what should happen if an officer or director moves outside the RNA boundaries during the course of his or her term, but still lives in the Heights.  To promote continuity and allow for the recruitment of dedicated replacements, the Board is proposing permitting directors and officers to finish their one-year term, if the board approves and if the director or officer still lives in the 07307 area code.  We will take a formal vote on this amendment during the July 2019 general membership meeting on July 9th.

The changes are underlined and highlighted below:

Article III Members

Section 4. Termination and Suspension.

If a Member moves out of the geographical area, or sells his or her property or business, membership in the organization is terminated,  except for a Director and/or Officer who may complete their term of service provided that: (i) they continue to reside within the boundaries of Jersey City Heights (07307 zip code) and (ii) a majority of the remaining Board approves. A Member may be suspended or expelled for cause by a majority vote of the Board only after receiving due notice of a hearing before the Board and an opportunity for the Member to be heard by the Board. "Cause" for suspension or expulsion includes, but is not limited to, a Member's breach of these bylaws or failure to abide by any Code of Conduct implemented by the Board pursuant to Article IV, Section 8 herein. A Member whose suspension or expulsion arises from failure to meet eligibility requirements of membership in RNA, such as by failure to pay the annual membership fee, shall be given a reasonable opportunity to cure the defect.

Article V Board of Directors

Section 2. Qualifications, Number, and Election.
At the time of election, Directors shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age and shall reside within the geographic area of RNA.

Section 16. Relocation within the Boundaries of Jersey City Heights
In the event a Director moves out of the geographic boundaries of RNA during the course of their term, the Director's membership in RNA may continue and they may complete their term of service, provided that: (i) they continue to reside within the boundaries of Jersey City Heights (07307 zip code) and (ii) a majority of the remaining Board approves.

Article VI Officers

Section 6. Relocation within the Boundaries of Jersey City Heights
In the event an Officer moves out of the geographic boundaries of RNA during the course of their term, the Officer's membership in RNA may continue and they may complete their term of service, provided that: (i) they continue to reside within the boundaries of Jersey City Heights (07307 zip code) and (ii) a majority of the remaining Board approves.

City Council debates ordinances for affordable housing and AirBnB regulation

Presently before City Council are ordinances recommending the regulation of AirBnB short-term rentals in Jersey City and for the requirement of affordable housing set asides for new development projects requiring variances.  For more information about the current status of these ordinances, read the following links: Link 1 , Link 2 , Link 3 , and Link 4.   If you have a viewpoint as to the matter, you should contact your city council representatives (e.g. Michael Yun, Richard Boggiano, or any of the at-large representatives) or Mayor Steve Fulop's office.

Opening Night of Vault Allure was a big success

RNA, in conjunction with the Statuary, Margo and Walter Parks, and Nokia Bell Labs, have brought back the Vault Allure series to Historic Holland Street.  This festival incorporates art, music, dance, technology, poetry, and video to provide a vivid cultural experience to all attendees at no cost. Thank you to Nokia Bell Labs and the City of Jersey City for helping make this festival possible. Also, thank you to Kern Weissman for coordinating RNA's involvement in and planning of Vault Allure.

Mark your calendars for the next two experiences on July 13th and August 10th. If you would like to volunteer, please let us know at riverviewneighborhood@gmail.com
