Wells Street Outdoor Dining - 7 Days a Week
Wells Street Outdoor Dining Program Extended to Seven Days a Week

Starting last Friday, October 2, restaurants on Wells Street, between Huron Street and Superior Street will offer outdoor dining seven days per week. As a reminder, all east/west streets will remain open. To view a map of this closure, please click here. Please contact the participating restaurants directly for information about reservations.

While indoor service expanded this week, the City has worked with industry experts to develop guidance for outdoor operations this fall and winter, which was distributed to businesses last week.

Under these guidelines, tents and other structures will be allowed on the public way for the first time, Expanded Outdoor Dining Permits will be extended to last through the winter season and road closures will continue - weather permitting - in order to allow our small businesses as much time as possible to make up for lost revenues. The outdoor guidance can be found here .
Virtual Halloween Costume Contest!
With the health and safety of our neighbors and community partners in mind, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Halloween Family Festival in Ward Park. Instead, the RNRA is hosting a Virtual Halloween Costume Contest so that neighborhood kids and their families can still celebrate and enjoy the fun and excitement of the season.

The City of Chicago announced a plan to safely celebrate Halloween in Chicago that emphasizes social distancing and other safety precautions while allowing trick-or-treating and other fun activities throughout the week.

The City’s ‘Halloweek’ guidelines will allow for a responsible celebration spread out over a full week to minimize congregation, while calling on both children and adults to abide by COVID safety precautions that are keeping all of us protected and limiting the spread of the virus. ‘Halloweek’ activities will include safe trick-or treating along with Halloween-themed programs from the Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Library and other City departments and partners.

Volunteer to Pitch in for Ward Park!

This year, the Chicago Parks Foundation, in partnership with the Chicago Park District and local communities, is leading a citywide volunteer initiative to help keep our parks clean.

Over the past few months, park budgets have been stretched and there are fewer seasonal employees. If we provide the volunteers, the Chicago Parks Foundation will provide clean-up supplies and safety guidelines to help support our park’s ongoing maintenance.

Join the RNRA in Ward Park on Saturday, October 17th from 9:00 am - 11:00 am and help us “Pitch in for the Parks.”

Protective gloves, trash bags and tools will be provided. Volunteers will work in groups of ten or less and physical distancing guidelines will be enforced. Face masks/coverings must be worn at all times. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Registration is required. Can we count on you to “Pitch in for Ward Park?”

Registration cannot be accepted until review of the Volunteer Safety Guidelines and completion of the Participant Release Waiver Form.
2020 Census Extended to October 31
Information from the census shapes our communities and influences our city’s voice in Congress. The census tells us who we are as a nation and what we need. Data collection has been extended through October to ensure a complete count. Remember, for every additional person counted in Chicago, we stand to gain approximately $1,400 that could be used towards parks, schools, and infrastructure!

Early Voting has started in Chicago
Early Voting started last week in Chicago: What You Need to Know
