“Don’t Call it Jazz” airs on KISU-FM on the first and final Saturday of each month at 7 p.m. Audio for all shows is also available on KISU.org. Jon Armstrong, the host of “Don’t Call it Jazz,” is a professional musician and a professor of jazz music and recording technology at ISU. Shelby Murdock, a musician, educator, businesswoman, and ISU grad, will be joining Armstrong this Saturday, Aug. 29. Murdock plays the violin, cello, guitar, and mandolin and specializes in old-timey fiddle music. After graduation, Murdock started her own music teaching business, Snake River Strings Co. For this session, Murdock suggested a few old-timey fiddle tunes for us to jam on.
“I learned five tunes. You'll hear me on bass, piano, and saxophone, and you'll hear Murdock on violin and cello. It was a super fun jam session, a spirited conversation, and a real pleasure to feature such a talented and intelligent woman from our area, who is contributing so much to our local music culture," Armstrong said.
