Helping the Homeless One Box at a Time

The Students of the ISU Public Health Student Association (PHSA) are lending a helping hand to the homeless community this year. They are creating boxes that provide some of the basic necessities such as pillowcases, silverware, soap, and much more. However, the club is struggling to complete its goal of finishing the boxes and is asking for donations.

The club began this idea of transitional boxes, after a reported death in one of our Pocatello parks. They took death as a call for action. They were driven to impact the homeless communities’ lives, and after reaching out to Aid for Friends, a local homeless shelter, they found that there's a large need for basic necessities. Particularly, this demand comes from those who are transitioning into housing and can’t afford these items. So to fill the demand they rose to action in creating transition boxes.

The transition boxes are created for those who are just receiving housing and do not have the basic supplies of living such as pillowcases, can openers, utensils, etc. items that some take for granted or forget about. However to those just coming into a home the small items have their price which is why our outstanding in the PHSA want to help. As of now, they are struggling for donations to finish their box count of which they want out by the third week of April. So they ask that students rise to the occasion as well, to make an impact larger than themselves.

If you would like to donate, please make checks payable to ISU Public Health Student Association and mail to: 921 S. 8th Ave. MS 8170, Pocatello, ID 83209-8170 between February 22 and March 22. Please consider donating funds!
