“For who has despised the day of small things?” (Zechariah 4:10)
“For by Him all things were created... visible and invisible...” (Colossians 1:16)
Much of what happens through ROCK International’s multilingual media ministry is invisible. People scan a QR code or download a video, audiobook, or text file without realizing the work behind it. They see books, but not the writers, proofreaders, translators, translation coordinators, field testers, formatters, printers, webmasters, accountants, or the hours of prayer and planning “in the secret place” (Matt. 6:6; Psa. 91:1). They watch a movie in their heart language, but seldom consider the directors, artists, consultants, editors, video/audio technicians, reviewers, problem solvers, or the copyright licenses that make it possible. Yet remove just one hidden piece — such as a copyright license — and crucial tools in ROCK’s multilingual arsenal could disappear from the web.
A couple of weeks ago, Vimeo restricted public access to Scene 3 of KING of GLORY after a copyright-detection bot questioned ROCK’s right to use a particular sound effect. Although we purchased a perpetual license for the one-minute “Black Hole Time” sound effect in 2013, the bot challenged it. Many hours of detective work followed as we gathered documentation, contacted companies, and prepared appeals to prove our right to use “Black Hole Time,” the sound effect that opens Scene 3 — one of hundreds of sound effects and music tracks for which we hold worldwide licenses. (Praise God! As of yesterday, Vimeo informed us that they reviewed the evidence, reversed the claim, and restored Scene 3.)
Meanwhile, God continues to open doors for the gospel through small things — like KING of GLORY business cards. Before the World Cup games began, believers in three host cities asked us to equip them with multilingual YOUR STORY booklets and KING of GLORY QR-coded cards (linking to the movie in 60+ languages) to pass on God’s “good news of great joy” (Luke 2:10) to World Cup fans from many lands. Behind these small cards are decades of unseen work with believers around the globe to produce ROCK International multimedia gospel and discipleship tools in 115+ languages — and counting.
Last month, we sent 20,000 cards to a visionary brother who lives a few hours from Kansas City. God has multiplied his vision. Last week, his wife shared this testimony from the 100-person prayer/outreach team in Kansas City after the match between Algeria and Austria:
“One encouraging encounter was with a young man from a Muslim background who came to faith in the Lord Jesus just two weeks earlier after reading the entire Bible in one week in his search for truth. When he noticed Arabic writing on a teammate’s shirt, he joyfully discovered that we too were followers of Christ. As a brand-new believer, he eagerly exchanged contact information. We praise God for these ongoing divine appointments and the opportunity to sow His Word among people from many nations.”
Thank you for your prayers and partnership in the countless unseen details that keep ROCK International’s gospel and discipleship resources accessible to people who do not yet know “the King eternal, immortal, invisible” (1 Tim. 1:17) — who alone can reconcile them to God!
