Rootball is the newsletter of Pando Populus.

Pando’s success is producing two things: A generation of capable young people who take on real issues with the courage, knowledge, and stick-to-itiveness needed to invent and develop real projects that make an actual difference. And their successful projects that are quietly changing the world.

The Pandos are coming!

Join us on Sunday, Oct. 18 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. for The Pando Sustainability Awards at the extraordinary Resnick Sustainability Institute on the Caltech campus in Pasadena.

We will be honoring outstanding projects from the 2025/26 Pando Days season

The year’s lineup included a fascinating range of projects, from innovative technology reducing wildfire risk to a campus transportation system that cuts traffic in half and helps students pay the bills; from a composting project that rebuilds both soil and community to a project that helps a K-12 school remake its outdoor space with ecological relations in mind.

And that's just the beginning. For a preview of all the projects you’ll see, go here – and prepare to be astonished at what’s happening across the Southland and beyond. And help us welcome, for the first time, participation from the Bay Area.

At the Pandos, you'll have the chance to meet the instructors and student leaders who are mounting these initiatives and have the chance to network with government and agency officials, NGO heads, and caring folks of all kinds.

And, as you did last year, you'll have the opportunity to cast your vote to award a cash prize.

Seating is limited. Watch for details.
