From the Executive Director

Dear ROSA Community:

We have not wasted a moment getting 2025 off to a productive start here at ROSA, and we hope the new year is shaping up to be rewarding and full of gratifying achievements for all of our partners.

Last month, we shared ROSA's newly approved 2025-2029 Strategic Plan. If you haven’t had a chance to review it yet, we encourage you to visit our website to explore the plan in detail.

In this issue of our newsletter, we invite you to read ROSA's 2024 Year in Review, updates on Data Governance, and exciting news about the expansion of FishFORWRD. We encourage you to consider these updates and resources and let us know if you would like to contribute to our ongoing efforts.

Looking ahead, we’re thrilled about advancing regional research proposals, supporting the work of our Data Governance Committee, and exploring new opportunities to strengthen partnerships.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration. Together, we can set the stage for a responsible and sustainable future for our ocean.

Warm regards,

Reneé Reilly, Ph.D.

Executive Director

FishFORWRD Update Available Now

ROSA's Fish and Fisheries OffshoRe Wind Research Database (FishFORWRD) continues to grow, providing researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders with the most comprehensive collection of offshore wind and fisheries research projects and monitoring efforts. The latest update added 54 research projects and monitoring efforts on the East Coast. An executive summary of this update is available here.

Phase 2 of FishFORWRD is a research gaps analysis to understand how identified research needs are being explored, and which research gaps still remain. This summer, ROSA plans to hold a Peer Review of the Research Gaps Analysis completed in 2024. Stay tuned for more information.

American Fisheries Society and

World Fisheries Congress Updates

Since 2021, ROSA has collaboratively organized special sessions on offshore wind, fish, and fisheries at the Annual Meeting of the American Fisheries Society (and we’ve just submitted a proposal for a fifth consecutive year at this year’s AFS meeting in San Antonio, TX - stay tuned!)

School of Striped Bass

We encourage presenters in these sessions to allow us to post their presentations on our website so a broader audience can see them. All of the 2024 presentations were recently posted on ROSA’s website here.

Presentations from the session on Pathways for a Sustainable Co-Existence of Offshore Energy, Fisheries, and Marine Conservation we also collaboratively organized at the 9th World Fisheries Congress in Seattle in March, 2024 can now be viewed at our website here.

Upcoming ROSA Advisory Council Meeting

The next ROSA Advisory Council meeting will be held on Thursday, March 27th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm EST. The agenda will be posted on the Advisory Council Meeting Page, where you can also view previous Advisory Council meeting information.
