I am pleased to announce that Dr. Mike Pol has joined ROSA as Research Director. Mike comes to us from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries where he served as Marine Fisheries Biologist for more than 22 years. He is a marine scientist with an extensive record of close collaboration with commercial fishermen on gear-based solutions to bycatch and other fisheries issues. Mike’s work on offshore wind has concentrated on regional impacts of multiple projects on fisheries and fishing operations. He has a far-reaching network of regional, national, and international partnerships, and a history of leadership and teamwork on various research topics. Mike holds a Doctorate in Marine Science and Technology from the School for Marine Science and Technology, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth; a M.S. in Wildlife Biology (Fisheries) from The University of Montana; and a B.S. in Natural Resources from Cornell University.
Mike will lead ROSA’s research program focused on better understanding ocean ecosystems and the potential impacts of offshore wind development on fisheries. He will work closely with me, the Advisory Council, and Research Advisors to advance our regional science goals and lead our technical work.
Please join me in welcoming Mike to the ROSA team. I am thrilled that he has taken on this important leadership role. Mike can be reached at mike@rosascience.org.
