TUESDAY JUNE 3, 2026

Honoring Commissioner

Rossana Rosado

The Latina Business Network of New York (LABNNY) proudly announces its Annual Charity Gala, taking place Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at The Fox Hollow in Woodbury, New York. As the organization’s signature event, the Gala brings together Latina leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals from across New York to celebrate excellence, leadership, and community impact.

This year’s Gala will feature Commissioner Rossana Rosado as the Keynote Speaker, recognizing her trailblazing contributions to media, public service, and education.

Commissioner Rosado currently serves as Commissioner of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and previously held the role of New York’s 66th Secretary of State. She also made history as the first female Publisher of El Diario La Prensa.

Her distinguished career extends into academia, where she has served as a Distinguished Lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her work across government, media, and education exemplifies the leadership and advocacy that LABNNY is committed to fostering within the Latina professional community.

“Commissioner Rosado represents the strength, vision, and leadership that define our community,” said Francine Meyreles, Co-Founder of LABNNY. “We are honored to welcome her as this year’s keynote speaker and to celebrate the powerful impact she continues to make across New York State and beyond.”

During the program, guests will also experience exclusive excerpts from Commissioner Rosado’s newly released book, offering a personal and inspiring perspective on her journey and legacy.

In continued commitment to philanthropy, proceeds from the Gala will benefit Pronto of Long Island, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services, food assistance, and support programs to individuals and families in need across the region.

Rossana Rosado is a journalist, writer, educator, and fierce champion of justice. Born and raised in The Bronx, her journalism career spanned over 30 years in New York media and included stints in radio, and television.

She was the first female Editor, and then Publisher & CEO of El Diario La Prensa, the oldest Spanish language newspaper in the country. As a young reporter she covered City Hall and wrote many stories about the challenges faced by Latino New Yorkers.

She has a Journalism degree from Pace University and master’s in criminal justice from John Jay College where she was Distinguished Lecturer, and taught courses in four NYS prisons. During her media career, she earned an Emmy Award, a STAR Award from the NY Women’s Agenda, and a Peabody Award for Journalism.

Presently she is a commissioner in New York State overseeing Criminal Justice Services. Previously, she served as New York’s Secretary of State. Her passions are leadership, justice, women and her family.

When you’re from The Bronx people perceive a certain toughness.  It is that Bronx Attitude that permeates this memoir. A childhood surrounded by family imbued the author with a sense of duty and empowerment that got this daughter of Puerto Rican parents through a journey in uncharted territory. From a college application process to internships and so many experiences that people in her family had not lived but expected from her. She writes about culture shock in college and lovely moments of identity and purpose which lead her to a 30-year career in New York media.

The reader is given a ringside seat to her challenges and victories as a young reporter covering City Hall during the Koch administration to her eventual promotion to the role of Publisher & CEO. Her career mirrored and coincided with the unprecedented growth in New York’s diverse Latino community.  From her Bronx childhood to a seat at the table in New York’s iconic boardrooms Rosado demonstrates how Latinas lead.

This memoir is a celebration of family, traditions, heritage and hard core New York City hustle.
