Revenue Neutral Rate Public Hearing

The City has put together information that explains what will be discussed at the Revenue Neutral Rate Public Hearing scheduled for August 22, 2022, at 6 p.m. at City Hall on the City's mill rate and how it follows the Kansas Legislature's Senate Bill 13 requirements. The Governing Body plans to lower Roeland Park’s mill rate, just not to a revenue-neutral rate.

Key Takeaways:
▶️ A revenue neutral philosophy requires that a government provide this year's services at last year's prices.
▶️ The City proposes to exceed the revenue neutral rate and use a modest increase in revenue to help pay for things like public safety, street maintenance and parks and recreation.
▶️ The City of Roeland Park's adopted 2022 mill rate was 28.547.
▶️ The City is proposing a 1 mill reduction for the 2023 mill rate.

Racial Equity Committee Education Series

This month’s Racial Equity Committee Education Series will be a self-guided reflection on reproductive rights. Racial Equity Committee member Diane Mora thoughtfully curated three resources – two podcast episodes and an essay – to encourage reflection and conversation around this topic.
You can access a free PDF of the essay, a link to purchase or borrow the entire book, links to the two podcast episodes, and a survey to share your thoughts, questions and concerns by visiting this link.

We encourage you to share this information with family and friends (non-Roeland Park residents welcome) and use the resources as an anchor for considerate, thorough conversation.
Cooper Creek Neighborhood Meeting

The City would like to invite you to attend a neighborhood meeting on August 17th, from 6-7 pm at the
Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Drive, to discuss the Cooper Creek stream
located between Ash Drive & Roeland Drive, 57th St to Johnson Drive. The intent of this meeting is to provide information to residents that border Cooper Creek in response to concerns of the stream condition and to explore how the city and residents can partner together to improve the stream way.

During the meeting, the city will provide a presentation that will show the current conditions of the
creek, identify constraints or hurdles associated with improvements as well as possible options to consider. City staff along with the city engineer and landscaping professionals with be available for questions at the end of the presentation.

If you have any questions or would like to submit questions ahead of the meeting, please contact Donnie
Scharff, Roeland Park Public Works Director, at or call 913-722-2600.
