Letter from the Director
Dear Redeemer Community,

As most of you know I am not a native Baltimorean and probably never would have found my way here if it wasn't for family. When my husband Stuart and I became engaged, I was living and teaching in California. Moving to Baltimore meant not just beginning our lives together with plans to eventually expand our own family, but it also meant marrying into a very large extended family with 26 aunts and uncles, 54 first cousins and so many second cousins that I would learn to say, "I'm not sure who that is, I'm just married to a Knott!" (That's just ONE side of his family. And did I mention that I have five siblings of my own?)I knew and was excited about all of that going in.

What I didn't know was the other Baltimore family that I would come to know and love - and that is the Redeemer family. From the Fall Family Fair to the Halloween festivities today, fall at Redeemer is a wonderful time to celebrate together. Community is at the core of our program, and we are fortunate to have a wonderful group comprised of nearly 80 families, 21 faculty and staff members, and our beloved church community. Its presence permeates into everything we do.

I'd like to take this moment to thank Aimee Cummings and Erin Cummings, our Fall Fair Co-chairs, for planning an incredible family day on October 21. Thank you also to the Redeemer teachers, Katie Poe, Parent Council Co-chairs; Ruth Keffer and Jen Rakes, former PDS students and many, many parent volunteers for all they did to support this event. From infants to grandparents, it was a wonderful gathering of our community.  Please take a moment to enjoy our new slideshow (found under the QuickLinks section), which is dedicated to the Redeemer family.

We all know that family is never perfect, but it is definitely special. With a nod to "Cheers", I suspect that Redeemer reminds us all of the kind of place "where everyone knows your name, and they're always glad you came!" That sounds like the kind of family to which we all want to belong.

Happy Halloween! Enjoy this special time with your families.

Best regards,
Mary

Program Highlights:
Rodger's Farm and Corn Maze Field Trip

Our kindergarten and pre-first students lucked out with a gorgeous day for their visit to Rodger's Farm and Corn Maze. They got to visit with lots of farm animals, enjoy a fun-filled hayride and wear themselves out on the farm playground They all came home happy, tired and with their very own pumpkins. The bus ride to and from the farm may have been almost as much fun as the farm itself; everyone squealed and giggled the entire way.  Thank you very much to the chaperones who were able to join us for this special day.

Parent Council Notes

Thank you everyone for welcoming in the cooler weather last Saturday with the Fall Family Festival!  Pony rides, football toss, pretty nails, pretzels and cupcakes are a pretty great way to spend a Saturday with friends!

We couldn't have had such a great day without the creativity and leadership of Erin Cummings and Aimee Cummings!  We are so grateful to you for helping our little friends have such a wonderful day.  And to all the parents who volunteered, set-up and cleaned-up and brought your little ones out - Thank you!

We are fortunate to have a community like ours and we couldn't have fun events like this without you.  Happy Fall!
Ruth & Jen

Please mark your calendar
The next Parent Council meeting is Thursday, November 10th at 9am in the nursery; meetings aim to last less than 1 hour. All families are welcome (you do not need to be on a committee or a PC class rep to attend).  As always children are welcome to play in the nursery while we meet.  If you are unable to attend, but have questions or feedback, please reach out to Ruth or Jen.

See you soon!

Boots for Baltimore
Boots for Baltimore
The response to our Boots for Baltimore coin drive has been outstanding this year. Thank you to everyone who has participated. If you would still like to send in coins and loose change, please do so by Wednesday, November 2. To celebrate our efforts, children should wear their boots to school that day when we will have special chapel service dedicated to this outreach program. Thank you to Sophie Coates and Chrissy Levering for all their help with this project. It is wonderful that our little ones know that they can make a difference in the Baltimore community.
