Pastor Maxted on R&R June 3-9
|
The Guiding Board approved the recommendation to grant time away from pastoral duties to Pastor Mitch Maxted this coming week. The Board, along with the Elders and Pastoral Support Team, commend Pastor Mitch for his 24/7 commitment to the welfare of the congregation during the past two and a half months of the uncertainties of the novel coronavirus.
The entire congregation is grateful for the love and devotion he showers on us and for his faithfulness to
Father, Son
and
Holy Spirit.
Pastor Mitch led the transition from services at our 22 Chalice Way campus to gathering via ZOOM. From the closing weeks of Lent, through Holy Week and Easter, and to Pentecost Sunday on May 31, the congregation has gathered to worship, fellowship, pray and reach out to others beyond the greater Round Rock area. During that period there have been fourteen (14) opportunities to worship and fellowship remotely. Routine weekly activities have continued as the Les Misérables study, the Elders prayer journey, Caring Hearts Wednesday prayer group, the choir, and adult Sunday school classes regrouped and remain active. Leadership teams (Board, Ministries Council, Elders, Pastoral Support) maintain their schedules and a Reopening Task Force formed.
Thank you, Pastor Mitch, for your leadership in these unprecedented times. You have kept the church, known as Round Rock Christian, spiritually alive and well. We continue to worship, serve, and grow as you provide opportunities to strengthen our purpose and identity, both as a congregation and individually. We have experienced love in new ways. We love you and wish you a relaxing time away from us to be with your family.
During the period June 3-9, all activities of the congregation will continue on schedule. Should you have any needs or communication with our church, please contact Moderator Linda Glover (512-924-1440) or Head Elder Gary Tucker (512-585-4394).

Sunday's Scripture Reading
Acts 2:1-21
(New Revised Standard Version)
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.
2 And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
3 Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.
4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
5
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. 6 And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. 7 Amazed and astonished, they asked, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs-in our own languages we hear them speaking about God's deeds of power." 12 All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" 13 But others sneered and said, "They are filled with new wine."
14
But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 15 Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning. 16 No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
17
'In the last days it will be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 18 Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. 19 And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. 20 The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord's great and glorious day. 21 Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'

Pentecost Special Offering
|
Celebrating 1,000 New Churches... and Counting! In 2001 the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) embraced a bold vision: to start 1,000 new churches in 1,000 different ways by the year 2020. And we did it! We started 1,000 new churches... and counting!
Today, we have welcomed 1,034+ new faith communities into the Church. The Table around which we gather has grown in language, diversity, and life experience. Our church has been transformed by the movement of the Holy Spirit and an audacious vision to start new churches. Celebrating 1,000 new churches... and counting! Courageous leaders have answered the call to grow the Disciples family through the new church movement. They have given their hearts to reaching the underserved, welcoming new neighbors, and creating communities of love. And we, as a church, have committed to supporting those who have stepped out in faith to start new churches. We celebrate these brave leaders and recommit to continuing to support their call. Because, together, we started 1,000 new churches... and counting!
Participate in the 2020 Pentecost Offering. Express your gratitude for what God has done and contribute to the continued work of starting more churches. Each year, half of what you give stays in your Region to support and sustain new churches near you. The second half helps train, equip, assist, and nurture leaders across the United States and Canada through New Church Ministry programs.
Your gift to the Pentecost Offering will help the movement continue. Celebrating 1,000 new churches... and counting! For more Pentecost Offering resources, including a brief video, visit:
