Scripture:
1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Sermon title:
"How Am I Showing God's Love?"

To be good stewards of God's love, we are to actively work to show God's love in the world. Some show God's love by working for social justice. Others visit and listen to those who are alone. Others show God's love by making sure the business and work of a faith community reflects the love of God. How are you showing God's love?

The Order of Worship for This Sunday

Call to Worship

Within the whole family of God on earth, we gather as God's church in the name of Jesus Christ for worship, for fellowship, and for service; for mission, witness, and mutual discipline; and for our nurture and renewal as followers of Christ.

Transcending all barriers within the human family we receive the gift of ministry and reconciliation. All dominion in the church belongs to Jesus Christ, its Lord and head, upon whom the whole body depends. Let us give God our thankful praise today!

Sunday's Scripture Reading

I Corinthians 13:1-13(New Revised Standard Version)

13 If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end.

11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

Disciples Women's Ministries Announces
September 14, 2020 Fall Kick-off Meeting

You know that autumn is just around the corner when the Disciples Women's Ministry announcement of the return of monthly meetings arrives.

This September the second Monday is September 14, the date of our DWM 9:30, coffee klatch virtual meeting. We will visit to catch up with one another from our individual homes, hear plans for fall activities, and share in an outstanding bible study from the Old Testament, the book of Ruth.

Facilitator Mildred Adair offers this link that provides a bit of background on the historical, geographic, and family setting. Please download the study guide and follow the suggestions to read about the great-grandmother of David. There are questions to answer prior to the meeting.

A few days prior to the meeting look for the zoom invitation link and more news of DWM activities from president, Susan Kessler.
