The Order of Worship for This Sunday

Call to Worship

People of God, let us gather within the covenant of love which binds us to God and one another. Let us gather at the table of the Lord to celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ.

Let us gather to remember our baptism into Christ by which we enter into newness of life and are made one with the whole people of God. Let us gather to worship the maker of heaven and earth to whom be blessing and glory and honor forever!

Scripture Reading

Mark 1:9-15  (New Revised Standard Version)

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, "Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased."

The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel."

Week of Compassion

DISCIPLES MISSION FUND SPECIAL
DAY OFFERINGS provide an opportunity to highlight specific ministries as part of our faith celebrations. There are six Disciples Mission Fund Special Day Offerings received each year during Easter, Pentecost, Thanksgiving, and Christmas seasons, plus Reconciliation and Week of Compassion.

Week of Compassion is the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). When you give to Week of Compassion, you personify one of Round Rock Christian Church's measures - extending compassion - by helping people in need all around the world. Through sustainable development projects, our partners help provide life-giving water and other critical resources. Let love flow, and share more than just water.

The 2021 Week of Compassion Offering will be received on February 21 and 28.
You may give by check or online at www.rrdisciples.org, designating your gift as Week of Compassion Offering. If you'd like to learn more about Week of Compassion, there is a new 20-minute video that just came out today, February 19th. It is a conversation between our General Minister and President, Rev. Terri Hord Owens, and Week of Compassion representative Rev. Caroline Hamilton-Arnold. Rev. Hamilton-Arnold is speaking from Houston, which, like Austin/Round Rock, has been greatly impacted by the winter storm of this past week. Here is the link to the video: "Imagine With Me" - Week of Compassion
Guiding Board

A Reminder from Your Guiding Board...

At every Board meeting, one of the first items on the agenda is "Congregational Communication."  This is anyone's opportunity to bring an item to the Board.  You may also ask any Board member to bring something to the Board on your behalf.  If you'd like to speak at a meeting, we'd be glad to hear from you.  Simply let the moderator know a few days in advance so you can be put on the agenda and make sure you get the Zoom meeting info.   The next meeting of the Guiding board will be
this coming Monday, February 22, 2021.
