The Order of Worship for This Sunday

Call to Worship
(adapted from a piece by Thom Shuman, posted on Lectionary Liturgies)

Lent calls us to worship together, to tell future generations the good news. Lent calls us to practice justice, to bring God's hope to all people. Lent calls us to faithful living, to trust the One who gives us life.

Lent calls each of us to take up our cross, to trust the One who bears it with us. Lent calls us to journey with God. Let us worship God, who walks with us,
this and every day.

Scripture Reading

Mark 8:31-38  (New Revised Standard Version)

And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he said this plainly.

And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are not on the side of God, but of men."

And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? For what can a man give in return for his life?

For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

Week of Compassion

DISCIPLES MISSION FUND SPECIAL
DAY OFFERINGS provide an opportunity to highlight specific ministries as part of our faith celebrations. There are six Disciples Mission Fund Special Day Offerings received each year during Easter, Pentecost, Thanksgiving, and Christmas seasons, plus Reconciliation and Week of Compassion.

Week of Compassion is the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). When you give to Week of Compassion, you personify one of Round Rock Christian Church's measures - extending compassion - by helping people in need all around the world. Through sustainable development projects, our partners help provide life-giving water and other critical resources. Let love flow, and share more than just water.

The 2021 Week of Compassion Offering will be received on February 21 and 28.
You may give by check or online at www.rrdisciples.org, designating your gift as Week of Compassion Offering. If you'd like to learn more about Week of Compassion, there is a new 20-minute video that just came out today, February 19th. It is a conversation between our General Minister and President, Rev. Terri Hord Owens, and Week of Compassion representative Rev. Caroline Hamilton-Arnold. Rev. Hamilton-Arnold is speaking from Houston, which, like Austin/Round Rock, has been greatly impacted by the winter storm of this past week. Here is the link to the video: "Imagine With Me" - Week of Compassion
