Since the launch of our new strategic plan at the end of 2022, we have been busy delivering on that roadmap to 2028 and fulfilling our mission to serve as a leading business school committed to high-quality research, academic excellence, and engagement. At RSBC, we have continued to identify innovative ways to deliver transformative education to our students. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of RSBC, I am delighted to share our progress report with this edition of our newsletter.
Our progress highlights a holistic commitment to success as an institution. Key accomplishments and initiatives include:
- Beginning in 2021, achieved the highest graduate enrollments year after year, built on an expanded portfolio of degrees. Importantly, our increased commitment to internationalization has also led to significant growth in international enrollments.
- Revisioned our undergraduate leadership program to a Business Honors program that delivers signature opportunities to high-achieving on-campus and transfer students.
- Increased investment in faculty and staff development, including training and professional development, clarification on promotion and tenure guidelines, teaching and research grants, and faculty/staff recognitions.
- Enhanced student mentorship activities through peer-mentor and Executive-in-Residence programs.
- Elevated our alumni and external engagement resulting in multiple signature events involving community and corporate partners. We were also delighted to receive our largest single gift in the history of RSBC to support activities in Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

Spotlight on Dr. David Pedersen: Susman Award Winner and Innovator in AI-Enhanced Learning | |
We are proud to announce that Dr. David Pedersen, Associate Professor and Director of MS in Finance–Financial at Rutgers School of Business–Camden, has been honored with the prestigious 2023-2024 Warren I. Susman Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Pedersen’s groundbreaking work integrating AI and interactive platforms, like Yellowdig, into his courses exemplifies innovative teaching at its finest.
Dr. Pedersen’s innovative approach not only enhances student learning but also sets a benchmark for educational excellence at Rutgers School of Business–Camden. His recognition with the Sussman Award is a testament to his commitment to advancing teaching methodologies and preparing students for the future. More on his innovations can be found here.

Student Spotlight
Meet Sara Hanstad, a current graduate student at Rutgers School of Business–Camden! Hailing from Fergus Falls, MN, Sara is pursuing her Online Master of Accountancy (MAcc) and is set to graduate in Spring 2025. Her decision to choose Rutgers was driven by the unique opportunity to complete prerequisite courses without additional costs, while simultaneously working on her MAcc coursework. This made her dream of obtaining a Master’s in Accounting a reality!
Her advice for balancing school, work, and other commitments? “Don’t procrastinate! Use small moments of free time effectively and schedule uninterrupted weekly study sessions.”
Join us in celebrating Sara’s accomplishments and wishing her the best as she continues her journey towards becoming a CPA and beyond!

Alumna Spotlight
Tara Stewart, a 2019 graduate from the Rutgers School of Business–Camden Professional MBA program! Tara opted for RSBC’s Graduate Professional MBA Program because of its well-rounded curriculum and convenient schedule. She valued the opportunity to network with peers and professionals from across the state and surrounding areas!
Tara’s advice for students is to commit to their schedule and priorities by maintaining a healthy work-life balance and communicating effectively with their work and family. One of the highlights of her time at RSBC was the supportive faculty and the meaningful relationships she built with her peers.

Dr. Yuliya Strizhakova receives NJ Bright Ideas Award | |
Out of 114 applicants, Dr. Yuliya Strizhakova, Associate Professor of Marketing, was chosen as one of 10 recipients of the NJ Bright Ideas Awards in November 2023! Dr. Strizhakova, along with four undergraduate students, wrote a paper, titled “Engaging consumers with environmental sustainability initiatives: Consumer global-local identity and global brand messaging,” which enabled the receipt of the award. RSBC would like to shine a spotlight on Jeff Sukosky, who serves as the secretary and provides support to all the faculty and staff in the School. Always ready to lend a hand, Jeff has supported RSBC since 2012 after holding positions in Rutgers–New Brunswick and Educational Testing Services.
Outside of work, Jeff enjoys outdoor activities, like hiking and playing tennis, as well as playing guitar or tinkering with his car. He also enjoys spending time with his 14-year-old cat, Frida.
We thank Jeff for his many years of dedicated service!

AI Workshops
Professional and Executive Education at Rutgers (PEER) just completed three introductory AI workshops for non-profits and small businesses to support leaders of these organizations enhance their understanding of AI to increase productivity. PEER has introduced a number of AI offerings to meet organizations – and individuals – to provide the “must have” skill for success in the 21st century workplace.
