K-12 School News

June 7, 2024

Greetings from Westervelt Hall!

Click here to watch the ASL video!

Dear RSD Family,

It is with mixed emotions that I send my last school newsletter as Principal. To say it has

been an amazing experience would be an understatement. RSD students are truly the

best, and I have loved watching each and every one of them grow into their unique and

special selves.

I will especially miss the Friday morning Elementary meetings, when all of the children

take turns making announcements and practicing signing to an audience. The PAWS

cheer they do at the end of each Friday meeting is like nothing I have ever experienced

before! The students are energized and full of Wildcat pride when they chant it together

each week!

I will miss visiting the Middle School students during lunch, or before school starts,

because they are friendly and inquisitive, and always have challenging questions for

me! Their curiosity is refreshing and assures me that our next generation are deep

thinkers who care for each other and our world.

Some of my fondest memories of the High School students are the meetings I have had

with the Student Body Government. Their ideas are creative and innovative, and we

have implemented several of them - because they are that good! I hope they are always

empowered to express their thoughts to improve the world! I have enjoyed their

enthusiasm when they talk about sports tournaments, TAP travels, the Wilmot

Internship, advocating in Albany, and all of the ways they have immersed themselves in

the opportunities provided to them.

I am extremely proud of all I have done at RSD to ensure that our students receive a

quality, enriching, and impactful educational experience. RSD students deserve the

best, and I am confident they will thrive!

I have enjoyed working with the staff at RSD, and I know that they will continue to put

students first in all they do. I admire RSD families and all you do to support your

children. You are the heart of RSD, and your partnership with the school is priceless.

Thank you to the students, Directors, staff, and families for allowing me to lead at

RSD. And as they say, once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Susan
