Hello Families!
Again, welcome back to the new school year! September has flown by and we are already in full swing! I hope that you have been able to visit our campus during Open House, Homecoming, sporting events or Back to School Night. We look forward to interacting with you many more times during this year.
I wanted to briefly share some information about our Wellness Policy. In addition to complying with New York State regarding nutritious lunches for students, all of our staff are asked to model and encourage healthy habits. Physical education classes and recess are standard ways that we continue to encourage physical activity. Another way we do that is to ensure that all treats or curriculum-related food provided in school must adhere to healthy standards. We are also limiting snacks in the Elementary classes to specific times, rather than allowing students to eat throughout the day.
If you would like to send in treats for your child’s birthday, please contact their teacher to ensure there are no allergies. Treats brought from home to share must also be store bought. Other than a birthday or special celebration that has been planned in advance, students are not allowed to share snacks with each other. This is to avoid possible allergic reactions and to make sure families know what their child is eating. Also, I wanted to mention that when students bring drinks to school that are caffeinated or sugary, they are welcome to bring them to the cafeteria to have with their lunch. They will not be able to drink those in class. Students are encouraged to drink water in their classes, as long as there is a lid (to protect our laptops!).
I hope that your fall season is enjoyable!
