Range Safety Officer Course Open for Registration

The NRA RSO course develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.


Attendees must be age 21 or above. This course is nine hours long and is conducted in a classroom and at a shooting facility. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and a Course Evaluation form.

Registering for the Class

  1. Registration must be completed prior to coming to the class.  
  2. You Do Not need to be an NRA member to register online or take the class.  
  3. You do have to register online at the NRA link below to be accepted into the class. You cannot register for the class by calling in or emailing the office to be added. Also, making payment but not registering does not guarantee a spot. You must register first and then pay.
  4. If you want to join the NRA you need to do that several weeks before class so you have your number by time the class will be held. 
  5. If you want the NRA’s national credentials you have to be an NRA member.

There is an adjustment to the NRA Trainer Credential Fee Structure. As of February 1, 2026 the updated fee structure below is in effect. If you would like to join the NRA to avoid the higher Credential Fees, please be sure to do so well before the date of class.

Class Information: 

Class will start at 0800.

Students will need a notebook, some pens and or pencils, and a sack lunch.

The class will be certified at the end of the day. 

It is NOT necessary to join NRA to meet BRRC requirements for RSO.

Just attending the class and passing the examination meets the requirements for BRRC.
